Ovarian cyst - Laparotomy whilst pregnant

Hello All,
Just wondering if any of you have had a laparotomy whilst being pregnant?

I discovered at my 12 week scan that I had a 16cm ovarian cyst, unfortunately it twisted (at 14wks, 5 days) and I was rushed into hospital for emergency surgery last week. They attempted keyhole surgery but had to do a laparotomy (similar to c section) instead.

If you've had this operation whilst pregnant I'd be very grateful to know if you went on to have a natural birth after the op and how long it took for you to heal, etc.

Many thanks in advance! Smile

Hi I just sent you a pm about this

Hi there @Tiptop03 sorry to hear you're in the same boat. I hope all is well despite the ovarian cyst. I will message you privately, but will give a brief update on here incase anyone else finds themselves in the same situation.

Consultant I spoke to said all was ok for me to go ahead with a vaginal birth as the laparotomy did not consist of cutting into the uterus. So that was the plan to go ahead with everything naturally. But baby ended up being overdue by 2 weeks and I was advised to be induced but I decided I didn't want that (for various reasons) and had an elective c section. All went very well and the consultant was able to cut open where the laparotomy scar was. Plus it made my recovery less of a shock as I'd already had a similar op!
