When did you first feel movements with an anterior placenta?

I’m currently 16+6 and have been told at a 16 week scan that I have an anterior placenta, they said it’s nothing to be anxious about - I’m quite an anxious person - but it’ll be a bit longer until I can feel baby move.
For those that have had/have anterior placentas, how long was it until you felt movements?

About 22 weeks!

YourStarlessEyes · 05/05/2020 12:26

About 17/18 weeks, saw movements from the outside at 24 weeks.

I didn't realise how muffled the movements were with DC1 until I had my second DC and the placenta was at the back, it felt so forceful with DC2! I could even see her move a lot earlier.

Around 19/20 weeks x

I was between 22-23 weeks when I first really felt something - I didn't have any gentle fizzings or poppings beforehand - was sooo frustrating everyone asking if I could feel anything yet Confused lol

22 and a half weeks and, even then, it was only really faint flutters.
I'm nearly 26 weeks now and they're stronger and more frequent but I still wouldn't describe them as proper kicks.

Having an anterior placenta has no bearing on the health of baby or labour etc (unless it's low down and covering the cervix which is another issue altogether) but it can make for an anxious pregnancy. Some days I can hardly feel anything because of baby's position behind the placenta and lots of mums to be end up getting checked out for reduced movements. Reduced movements, no movements etc is a constant source of worry.

About 20 weeks! I never got flutters/bubbles/popping or anything else that people mention when they describe early movements. Went straight from nothing to twitches/pokes/prods. Very inconsistent still at 22+3, no pattern to the times etc. But definitely feels like gentle kicks/pokes rather than the "flutters" everyone speaks about!

Also every few days I have the odd couple of quiet days where I can barely feel anything at all, work myself up over the course of the day worrying, am super nervous by the evening and then I'll feel a little tap tap tap again and relax a bit. It's an anxiety roller-coaster having an anterior placenta 😂

Swaddleblanket · 05/05/2020 12:39

25 weeks for me

kirinm · 05/05/2020 12:40

It was just before my 20 week scan (that I had close to 21 weeks).

maryd84 · 05/05/2020 16:39

21 weeks for me

toomuchteaandcake · 05/05/2020 17:27

21/22 weeks

NicNac100 · 05/05/2020 17:34

@mrs87 I'm exactly the same! I had my 36 week growth scan/check up yesterday (I was 36+5) and they're like everything is fine but remember to call or come in with any reduced movements - yesterday she was kicking all over the place - today barely nothing - but it's often like that, if I called them every time she had a quiet day I'd be up there three times a week! Anterior placentas are super frustrating!! Total anxiety rollercoaster

quizwhitty · 05/05/2020 17:42

18 weeks and can feel it quite well now at 22 weeks

snch · 05/05/2020 18:34

Around 22 weeks when I felt proper kicks but it's not every day I get them sometimes it's just little flutters. I have the odd couple of quiet days. I don't usually feel anything until I'm lying down on an evening. My anxiety has been through the roof 😂

KittyKat2020 · 05/05/2020 18:42

22-23 weeks I felt little flutters now most days I feel a few kicks unless his been naughty and hiding behind my belly button!

foodtoorder · 05/05/2020 20:25

Both pregnancies anterior placenta and both 22-24 weeks approx.
Unmistakable though as pregnancy progressed.

Miltonj · 06/05/2020 08:59

18 weeks felt flutters and pops, by 20 weeks they were stronger and obvious. 21 weeks was seeing and feeling from outside. Now 22+5 and her kicks often take my breath away with their strength!

I don't think there is any 'normal' for what movement should feel like with an anterior!

UrsulaSings · 06/05/2020 09:03

19 weeks, now 22 weeks and can feel from the outside. Hes proper energetic though, I swear the other day I was getting kicked all day with only short breaks here and there!

Christmastree43 · 06/05/2020 09:11

I felt them as early as about 22-24w but even as late as 29w it wasn't every day and it was very muffled and movememts only at the sides. After 29w though (when I spoke to my midwife coincidentally) it has ramped up loads and now I can feel the shape of the baby and can feel kicks/ movemtns right across the front of my belly which is wonderful 🥰

I did have a panic around 26w when I had barely felt movements all day and paid for a private scan which showed baby moving round absolutely loads, although I couldn't feel a thing 🤨

SundayGirlB · 06/05/2020 10:45

Proper regular movements about 24 weeks. Flutters from 20ish.

Cattenberg · 06/05/2020 10:53

At 21 weeks exactly I felt a definite flutter.

At one point (27 weeks?) I went into the antenatal unit to be checked over due to reduced fetal movement. I was strapped to a monitor and I also had to press a button when I felt movement. It turned out that I was only feeling maybe 10% of my baby’s movements!
