What is the anti D injection like?

I have my anti D injection in a weeks time. Has anyone had this before? What is it like? I'm a bit scared it will be a huge needle and hurt a lot!

You'll be fine. I really worked myself up, it was easy. Not bad at all. It was over very quickly. Flowers

woodencoffeetable · 03/05/2020 16:37

it's like getting the flu jab.
stings a bit, but over in seconds

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 03/05/2020 16:38

No point worrying. You are lucky to be able to have it! My aunt lost multiple babies as she was pregnant before it existed.

But it is a big needle and hurts like buggery. But over quick.

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 03/05/2020 16:38

Normal jab, quick one in the arm, bit sore, fine the next day. Much less fuss than a blood draw.

bigbluebus · 03/05/2020 16:43

Seem to remember mine were given in my thigh. Hurts briefly but nothing to write home about. I had my 1st one after I'd had a CVS test done - believe me the CVS was a lot worse. Should have seen the size of the needle for that!

Fucket · 03/05/2020 16:43

Well it stings, probably better for your baby (or more likely any subsequent babies) if you have it. It will be over in seconds.

RestorationInsanity · 03/05/2020 16:44

I had mine in my bum! It ached but was fine, and I've got it to look forward to again all being we.

RestorationInsanity · 03/05/2020 16:44

Well not we!

missyoumuch · 03/05/2020 16:46

I’ve had two, both in the bum. Not great but you’ll be fine!

Thislittlekitten · 03/05/2020 16:46

Mine was in my bum too! It was quite sore but only for a minute. It’s over quickly so try not worry about it.

Thescrewinthetuna · 03/05/2020 16:48

Mine were in my arm. I didn’t look at the needle (just close your eyes) it was a pinch and over within seconds. Nothing to worry about Smile

Sertchgi123 · 03/05/2020 16:48

It's nothing to worry about, nothing at all. I've had it several times and hardly even noticed.

cookiemonster5 · 03/05/2020 16:48

I've had 3 kids, 2 of them are positive only the last was negative so I've had 8 injections (3 with the first 2 and 2 with the last 1).

All in the bum and sting a bit but fine once it's done.

Zoey92 · 03/05/2020 16:50

I had mine 4weeks ago.
In the arm, over in seconds & totally fine 🙂 dont worry lovely you'll be ok

I had an option of arm or bum. I have an ample derrière, so it went there. Hurt for a bit, but fine after an hour or so.

Ilovethekittehs · 03/05/2020 16:53

You've already had the D

notacooldad · 03/05/2020 16:55

It's years since I had it but I remember getting worked up about it.
I went to the surgery and it was over with in seconds. I went back to the car thinking 'is that it?'
😂
It was absolutely nothing to be bothered about.
With needles my biggest tip is to completely relax your body and day dream, or sing your favourite song in your head, anything to get out of the medical zone. Honestly , you will be fine!

notacooldad · 03/05/2020 16:58

You probably need to grow up a bit if you're going to have a baby
Don't be so bloody mean spirited! No need to act like that.

cabbageking · 03/05/2020 17:02

Had it in my thigh. Was nothing. No larger or more painful than any other jab. Think someone is winding you up?

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 03/05/2020 17:03

@Ilovethekittehs the midwife actually said to me "we need to give you the D". She was about 60 and really didn't understand why i laughed, but the student midwife got it, and she laughed too

Changedname78 · 03/05/2020 17:06

@Batfurger bore off 💤
I actually found the anti D worse than giving birth. Both times!
It’s horrible, feels cold going in your arm and just really isn’t nice, I do have a needle phobia though 🙁 having the anti d actually puts me off having a third child 😂 the plus side is, it’s over and done with quick enough and amazing that we even have this available to us!

PleasantVille · 03/05/2020 17:10

It's been a few years since I had it, has it changed?

It was exactly the same as any other injection at that time, in fact so like all the others I couldn't even tell you where I had it. I'm interested in why it's changed to something that would be concerning.

BeMorePacific · 03/05/2020 17:14

I had a couple due to bleeding, and they were absolutely fine x

Racoonworld · 03/05/2020 17:16

Thanks everyone! I thought it was something much worse because I had read something about plasma being used, had visions of being hooked up to a needle for a while.
