Hi all

Sorry for the long post. Just wondering if anyone has had anything like this and found out what it was?

Had strong period-like cramps start about 8am, wasn't sure if I needed to go the toilet which I did and was a little loose (sorry TMI!) But this didn't help, if anything the cramps got stronger. Like intense waves of period pain very regularly. Had a warm bath but didn't ease so called Maternity Triage who said to take two paracetamol, give it an hour and call back if no better. It had eased slightly an hour later so didn't call back - but did after another hour when they'd come back a bit. Triage advised monitor for a few more hours but it got worse so they called me in this afternoon. Had another couple of loose motions but the pains definitely feel more period like, very low down at the front.

Doppler showed baby's heartbeat was fine, heart rate of 150. Speculum exam showed that my cervix is closed which is good. They found blood in my urine (no UTI symptoms and I get these regularly so am familiar with the symptoms) but they've sent this to the lab along with a vaginal swab. The fact that I've had some loose-ish motions today is confusing matters - they really aren't sure whether it's bowel related, urine related, uterus related... So have sent me home to continue paracetamol. They don't think whatever the pain is is affecting baby at the moment as cervix closed and heart rate fine.

I'm home but still getting the pains - feeling very sorry for myself with a hot water bottle... Does anyone have experience of anything like this and could shed any light on what it was? As I (along with a midwife, junior doctor and a consultant) are none the wiser!

Thanks all x

I don’t hav drop much to add but didn’t want to leave you with no replies! Hope you’re feeling better now. Could still be any of the above and I guess time will tell - how often are the pains coming? Does your uterus feel tight when they come or is your tummy still soft? Is your appetite normal?
Would definitely encourage you to call them back if it’s persisting overnight or getting worse. Hopefully it all settles, but it could still be contractions by what you describe so if it persists they may need to do another internal exam to check no change to your cervix. With any luck it’s just a bout of gastro and you’re already feeling better :)

Hi OP, I could have written your post yesterday! Except I am 24 weeks and no loose bowel. The doc said to put it down to ligament or Braxton hicks. I feel worried when my tummy is so tight, it feels a bit better this morning. Hope you are too x

I posted something very similar last week. I’m 22 weeks today but was having strong period like cramps and diarrhoea for around a week, it was awful. Like you, it was hard to tell if it was anything worrying with baby, or because of the diarrhoea. Urine sample cake back clear and they have me a sample pot for faeces but I held off as things seemed to improve a little, although I still get it every other day or so. It’s worrying, but I’m guessing it’s part and parcel of pregnancy (although I don’t remember this last time!)

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your replies - really appreciate it. Maybe it is just part and parcel of pregnancy... It just felt so intense and constant for hours and hours it didn't feel right at all! I'm feeling much, much better today so whatever it was seems to have mostly subsided. Still not convinced on the cause but maybe I never will be Confused Hope everyone else is feeling okay too!
