Hi everyone - I am now 17.5 weeks pregnant and just wondering when you started feeling the baby kick? It is my first pregnancy so not sure if it is still too early. What does/did it feel like?

Hi 😊
My first baby was quite late probably around 20 weeks. My second baby was early I think around 15 weeks and my third baby the placenta was at the front of my tummy so I didn't feel her till about 22 weeks. I'm now 14 weeks and can't wait to feel baby move!
Once you do feel it it is the most incredible feeling in the whole world Smile x

sarahc336 · 30/04/2020 14:23

Around 17 weeks but it was a very slight almost tickling feeling. I think between 17-20 weeks is quite common. Think a lot has to do with where your placenta is laying xx

sel2223 · 30/04/2020 14:30

I'm a FTM and didn't feel anything till I was over 22 weeks.
I found out at my 20 week scan that I have an anterior placenta so even though she was wriggling and kicking away, I couldn't feel a thing

Sam0107 · 30/04/2020 14:34

I had my 20 week scan in the morning and felt baby kick for the first time that evening!
Had been an absolute wreck up until that point worrying about them. I have a posterior placenta too, might have been feeling them sooner but nothing I could definitely say was movement. Now 23 weeks and feel them getting into a slight routine, somersaults at 4am is their favourite thing to do!

anon1133 · 30/04/2020 15:19

FTM and felt baby at 16 weeks. Felt like muscle spasms in my lower tummy.

lockdownbirthdayhelp · 30/04/2020 15:39

I felt very faint flutters from 16 weeks but only when lying very still.

devilishdemento · 30/04/2020 17:41

I maybe felt something around the 20 week mark but I couldn't really be sure. 100% started feeling kicks by 25 weeks and they never stopped after that point. It does turn out that I have an anterior placenta though (was never pointed out to me, I found out while scanning through my ultrasound paperwork) so that could account for me feeling the kicks later than a lot of people do.

ayeitsamb3r · 30/04/2020 18:49

What felt like little rolls or flutters at about 18 weeks and proper lil kicks by about 25 weeks, then by 30 weeks it looked like something out of alien😅 Mostly when i was still and on my back c:

2020Aug · 30/04/2020 18:51

Flutters at 17 weeks, proper kicks about 20 weeks. Feels like they're trying to kick their way out now at 25!

Winterbobble · 30/04/2020 22:32

Thank you all so much for responding! It sounds like any time from now can you be normal so I will try and watch out for flutters/muscle spasms. It’s hard to distinguish whether it is pregnancy related or not with it being my first. I am just so impatient to feel he/she moving so I know it’s actually real ha ha! Smile

21/22ish weeks in all pregnancies. Anterior placenta in all pregnancies.

Careybeary · 01/05/2020 19:30

20 weeks and no anterior placenta x

Zoey36 · 01/05/2020 19:51

First pregnancy was flutters 16 weeks and husband could feel kicks from the outside by 18 weeks! No 17+6 and not even a flutter yet! All so different for many different reasons! I'm expecting to find out I have an anterior placenta at my scan but it could just be that baby is in a different position than my first was!

Zoey36 · 01/05/2020 19:51

*now

Winterbobble · 01/05/2020 20:38

I will ask what position the placenta is at my 20wk scan. The baby was ‘standing up’ in the womb at my 13 week scan so maybe that has an effect too if they are still in position?? Hmm

26 weeks with my first. I had an anterior placenta though so it's quite normal.

Lily2020 · 01/05/2020 20:48

18 weeks, I actually saw the tiny kicks moving my skin very low down near my pant line before I twigged it wasn't just wind!!! 😂 i was laid on my bed reading & suddenly realised that's what was happening 😂

RoseGoldEagle · 02/05/2020 08:25

Days before my 20 week scan with my first. Around 18 weeks with my second. Am now 16 weeks with my third and felt nothing yet.

WeeScottishWife · 02/05/2020 10:42

Pregnant with my first at the moment, I felt her move for sure somewhere around 18/19 weeks. I had felt things before that but I couldn't tell if they were baby movements or just my insides gurgling! With hindsight I'm pretty sure they were early movements. After 20 weeks, it very quickly got to being some movements that I couldn't possibly confuse with anything else.

Sampson1 · 02/05/2020 13:29

I am currently 24 weeks and have intermittant movement of baby (feels like bubble pops and sometimes light thup) and one day not alot and other days and times bit more. I have called midwife who has said that my placenta is positioned high up (anterior placenta) which I think could be the reason for not feeling significant kicks yet. Midwife has told me to track the next few days what period of times there is more movement. So far tracking any slight movements there is not much pattern of times. This has worried me abit. Anyone else experienced this?

sel2223 · 02/05/2020 14:34

@Sampson1 I've got a high anterior placenta too. 25+2 now and still only feeling flutters/bubbles as opposed to strong kicks (I even started a thread yesterday as had similar worries about movements coming and going).
It seems it's completely normal if you have an anterior placenta.
Most mums (regardless of placenta position) won't notice a pattern until 28 weeks so that's when all the medical advice I've seen recommends tracking movements from.

@Sampson1 this was the thread....some of the responses might help reassure you

Sampson1 · 02/05/2020 17:06

@sel2223 thank you I REALLY appreciate your reply and feel quite reassured that you also posted regarding this yesterday! I have had a good read of all the responses and some very helpful experience and advise! Hope all goes well and you get that kick.. although like you said we will hopefully be wondering why we were worrying when baby kicks in the ribs and restless nights! Thanks again

BooMamaBear · 16/05/2020 00:55

My first I didn't feel a kick til 20 weeks this fine 17w (posterior placenta this time)- it feels like you're being poked from the inside there's nit really a feeling like it I only count it as a kick when I can feel it from the outside too!

MichelleOR84 · 16/05/2020 08:00

I felt the first movement at 17+5 weeks but I wasn’t sure what it was . A few days later I felt that same movement so at this point I assumed it was baby . I was right as every few days I felt it .

At 20 weeks exactly I felt my first kick and that was amazing as it felt like a baby 🥰
