Amniotic band visible on ultrasound

Hi, I went for my 15 week private scan to find Out what I was having and they noticed an amniotic band. I was told it wasn’t touching baby and didn’t seem to be affecting any limbs, but I didn’t know much about it so didn’t know what questions to ask. Ive now googled it and am horrified with some of the things that can happen and very concerned :( It was still present on my 20 week scan last week, but again the Sonographer didn’t seem concerned and said all limbs seemed to be moving and wasn’t affecting baby at this point.

Has anyone else had experience with this and know the likely hood of the band causing a problem now I’m 22 weeks?

Thanks

Hi
Saw there was no posts but I can't really help either!
I had an amniotic band on my 12 week scan. Was told would probably be gone by 20 weeks and appears it was. We did a lot of research beforehand and the risks of anything bad happening to baby are very low. Though it's very low risk to have bands in first place! I wish you all the luck and hope it's gone soon! X x

I’ve had one throughout, they kept changing their mind from band to shelf and shelf to band. I’m 34 weeks now and I am having extra scans, I think if a limb is likely to get caught it happens pre 12 weeks so the longer you go the more you can relax, as baby grows it pushes it out the way.

My baby is breech which they think is due to the band meaning she can’t turn/engage, so a c section is looking likely.

Just push for extra scans for your peace of mind, it really helps!

Good luck :)

Thanks so much for responding guys! Although I’m sorry you both have been through the same worries, It’s nice to know I’m not on my own!

Sweatpea1989- when I went for my 20 week scan he said it was still visible but still not touching baby so hopefully, it won’t cause any major issues now. However, that was kind of it- he didn’t book me in for any extra scans or anything!

Was it the sonographer that booked more scans for you? Or your midwife? Or did you ask for these? I’d definitely like this to be monitored but they don’t seem bothered to be honest!!

Also, was your band not touching baby throughout either?

Thanks so much guys!

I had a previous loss at 22 weeks so I’m not sure if the extra scans are because of that or the band which they picked up super early, although the band is the thing they talk about the most!

As far as I’m aware and hoping it has never attached to baby, I just think of it as like a bit of tissue that cuts a bit of my womb off and as baby grows she needs the room and it’s pushing it out the way.

I think your baby will be fine :) x

A relative had quite a severe case of ABS during her pregnancy but had surgery in the womb and later gave birth to a really healthy little girl. This was in India too where often things like this can be missed. So don’t worry. Try not to Google (I know it’s difficult) and go to your consultant / mw if you have any questions.

I had a very visible band at 12 week scan with my second pregnancy - it was as long as the baby! Still there at 20 week scan but the baby was much bigger proportionally.
Absolutely no problems with the now 6 year old apart from sometimes she's got a teenager attitude already Grin

@Abvnoble
I had my 20week scan yesterday and they too have found an amniotic band. Can you please tell me what the outcome of this was I’m worried sick after googling it 🙈 mine is also not touching the baby and the sonographer said it’s quite thick and baby is moving freely so getting scanned again at 24 weeks to check up on it

Thanks in advance x
