Scan anxiety

Got my 12 week scan coming up. I'm a young first time mum and my anxiety is sky high. I know my partner will not be able to come in with me due to the current situation which makes my anxiety even worse. Thankfully we had a private scan at 10 weeks where he was able to come with me. Everything was absolutely fine, heard baby's heartbeat loud and clear. I'm so scared of miscarriage and then having to go and break the news to my partner. I know it's irrational but it's my anxiety which has always been severe. Any tips/advice on how I can manage this on the day?
TIA ❤️

I know this feeling I had my 12 week scan last week and was an absolute mess! It's completely normal to feel this way. Just remember you seen a heart beat two weeks ago. It will all be fine! Just do some breathing techniques and think positive. It's such a scary feeling before going in but you can't control the outcome so just go in with that mindset Daffodilxx

I was so nervous from the moment i woke up on the day of my scan, my whole body felt panicky. As soon as i sat down in the waiting room and looked around at all the ladies there on their own too i felt so much calmer. My DH waited in the car outside and knowing he was still nearby was reassuring.

As pp said remember that once you've seen the heartbeat the chance of miscarriage reduces significantly so try and focus on that and for the majority of women it will be good news. Wishing you all the best.

Like a previous post said, you are much less likely to have a miscarriage if you see a heartbeat.. Especially at 10 weeks. It's completely normal to feel really anxious. I was a mess with my first.
I am currently 12 weeks pregnant and have my scan tomorrow and I am absolutely petrified, just really hope everything is OK ❤️ when is your scan?

fedupwiththisshitnow · 27/04/2020 11:19

After a successful scan at 10 weeks it's incredibly unlikely that you'd miscarry now. The odds are something like 98-99% in your favour.

i'm in the same boat OP!

its my 20 week scan next week and i'm so scared. i was the same before my 12w too.

Just wanted to say that your nerves are totally normal! I have my 20 week scan on Wednesday and I'm already nervous and counting down the hours (49!).

JM0934 · 27/04/2020 12:55

I’m the same! First time pregnancy and have my scan this week! I’m so nervous and excited at the same time, it’s such a mixed feeling! Fingers crossed that we have all have good results this week!! SmileFlowers

@najs89 Totally normal to be anxious. I had my ten week scan on Saturday and I was so nervous about the possibility of something being wrong I even had a little cry before we left the house. But everything was fine! I know that I will still feel nervous at the 12 week scan too but I feel so much better now I’ve seen the baby and heard the heartbeat.
You had the same idea as me, booking a ten week scan so that me and my partner could experience it together as partners aren’t allowed at nhs scans. That was a very good idea!
I have terrible anxiety too which makes me dizzy and tearful. Just try to breathe steadily and remain calm and distract yourself if you can right up until you actually go for the scan. I’m sure everything will be fine for both of us x

I hear ya! I've got my 20 week scan on Wednesday and I'm absolutely crapping it. I can barely think about anything else

Chanel05 · 27/04/2020 17:22

@bingandflop when is your due date?

bingandflop · 27/04/2020 18:31

15th Sept, when is yours @Chanel05? X

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 27/04/2020 18:40

Firstly totally normal to be anxious, second of all rationalise with your anxiety, you have heard babies heartbeat, you haven't experienced any pain or bleeding I'm assuming, everything sounds like it will be okay.
You worrying will be pumping lots of adrenaline and cortisol round your body, which whilst aren't damaging for baby, aren't great for you at a time in your life when more than ever you should be treating yourself gently and kindly!
I had my 20 week scan alone, and was also not feeling confident, so I asked the sonographer to keep me busy by explaining in great detail what he was looking at, it was very interesting to hear in such depth what he was checking and kept my mind occupied plus seeing and knowing what everything was made me feel so at ease. The feeling you'll have after, it's such a boost during such a hard time. Good luck, you can do it, plus you aren't alone, you have your little baby with you!

Chanel05 · 27/04/2020 18:53

@bingandflop 15th September also!

bingandflop · 27/04/2020 18:57

@Chanel05 that's so nice! 🙋‍♀️😀

Im so glad I found this thread. I have my first scan tomorrow at 11:30 and Im so nervous! I know baby is okay as I bought a doppler and heard the babies heartbeat 5 minutes ago.
(Reason for buying, Ive had 3 miscarriages and was meant to be scanned every 2 weeks with this pregnancy, but then pandemic hit, so to calm my anxiety I bought a doppler).
So the last scan i had was when I was 5 weeks 5 days and baby was a smudge.
Im just worried their going to tell me something doesnt look right, or baby is missing a limb (still coming to terms that our bodies can grow a human, already shocked Ive grown a heart! 😂 )

I pray all of our scans go well 💛

najs89 · 28/04/2020 19:44

Hi all, I had my scan today and all was perfect. Thank you for all your kind and reassuring words. I hope all your scans go well too ❤️
