Severe round ligament pain

Hi everyone. I am nearly 23 weeks with my first and have been experiencing very painful round ligament pain. It started a couple of weeks back with a few sharp pains to the side of my bump.
However now the pain has traveled to my lower back and the pain can last for hours and. Nothing in particular brings this pain on it can happen anytime of the day whether I'm turning in my sleep or just sitting.
I have contacted my midwife and she has said to order a belt and take co codamol. Which I have done today. Anyone experienced something similar? Whenever I research it, they say the pain can be mild/moderate which has me questioning why I'm feeling it more severe and most definitely painful (bringing me to tears on 3 occasions) Being a first time mum and knowing few people who have had babies and no one has experienced this before which has me a bit concerned on how long this will go on for especially when I'm only half way there! Will this get much worse? I can't take much more pain if I'm honest.
So sorry for the long post just any reassurance or anyone who has experienced this before if you could pass on anything that has helped you it would be greatly appreciatedSmile

I can see this post was a while ok so I hope you’ve managed to find something that works for you to relieve the pain. Out of interest, was this pain on your left or right side? I am going through the exact same thing (I’m almost 17 weeks though) and have been referred to an NHS physiotherapist but I honestly can’t wait to get this seen to so I’ve started seeing a private osteopath, only one session in so far.

With the ligament pain my osteopath has recommended some gentle yoga stretching exercises and applying a cold compress for 10 minutes, then hot water bottle for 10 minutes and keep repeating for an hour a day to bring some of the swelling down. I was also told to avoid things like extended periods on my feet on walking as enduring the pain only makes the swelling worse.

Have you been given any advice since your post?

Hi hun, fortunately mine has eased a lot and I'm now nearly 31 weeks. The pain was on both sides but mainly on my right hand side and down my back. I purchased a belt which I wore a couple of times that did help. Hot baths also helped. That's such a shame your going through it so early on, I've always been a bit apprehensive that it comes back the bigger I get but thankfully so far no pain lol! I've also been sleeping with a pillow between my legs which I found helped the most. Hope this helps and your pain eases soon, its such a horrible constant dull ache which is draining but good you have those appointments which will help massively Xx
