Hi all - my first post here Smile, I'm 40 weeks today with my first baby and had a sweep yday at my midwife appnt. Midwife said baby not engaged yet and cervix still thick but managed to do a sweep.

I had a bit of spotting afterwards (brown/old blood - sorry if TMI!) But nothing I wasnt told to expect. Today I've got up with a fair amount of cramping, then started to have burning sensation and constant need to pee. The only thing I can compare it to is the feeling of a UTI - is this normal? I cant find anything online about it. Baby is moving fine. Obviously can go into triage and have it checked but would rather not go unless I have to atm!

Normally this is a sign that the babies head is pushing down on the cervix to thin it out ready for labour these are all good signs xx

Ah okay - thank you! Just such an unexpected feeling after nothing really happening yesterday xx

@Totters123 I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and waiting for the midwife to phone me today to book me in for a sweep tomorrow. I've convinced myself she isn't going to be able to do it for some reason. Apart from loads of pelvic pressure, being unable to walk, cramps and being so tired today there is no sign that this baby is going to arrive anytime soon! She seems far too comfy in there! 😣

Let me know how you get on over the next few days.... good luck hope baby arrives soon x

Yeah before my appointment I thought I had lots of 'signs' things were getting going (similar to you, pelvic pressure, cramps etc) and then at my appointment yesterday it was clear nothing was really happening! Midwife still managed to do the sweep though, even with my cervix being 'shut', so im sure you'll be okay. I would take it as a sign of our good hospitality they dont want to leave just yet - or they are being stubborn Taureans...

Good luck with everything - let me know how it goes! Smile

@Totters123 I've got to go at half 9 tomorrow morning for it doing. Not really looking forward to it. 😩

Have you just got to wait now and see what happens? Or has she booked you in for another one next week?

Yes I was looking up the star sign again yesterday and the word stubborn was used quite a few times..... explains a lot really!

I'm hoping I don't go too far overdue! X

Well, I wont lie its not the most comfortable experience but personally I found it better than a smear if that helps. Yes have another sweep booked for Monday if no action by then, fingers crossed!

Hopefully we'll both get to see the little ones soon Halo

@Totters123 how you getting on?

I've been and i found it very uncomfortable 😣 she could also feel her head I'm 1cm dilated.

I've got another one booked for next Friday but I'm keeping everything crossed that I won't need it 🤞 x

Totters123 · 24/04/2020 13:04

@FearnRJ awh im sorry to hear it was uncomfortable - but at least you managed to have one! How are you feeling?

I've actually been having some early signs, I woke up with some low level and sporadic contractions this morning and then lost my plug! However things have calmed down since then and nothing for a couple of hours, not sure whats going but I think its fair to say the sweep did something? I'll keep you posted.

@Totters123 Yes it felt as though she was reaching up to my tonsils 🤣 I'm okay I've got a few cramps and abit of back ache.

Oh that sounds promising then, hopefully things progress for you pretty soon! 🤞 x

FearnRJ · 28/04/2020 14:55
