Did you see a consultant after 20 week scan?

Just wondering what happens in your area.

After 20 week scan were you just sent home or did you have an appointment with consultant or midwife?

I’m consultant led (because I am fat) and saw him right after my scan.

The scan was a waste of time as baby was in wrong position anyway so I’m back next week for another. Just got the appointment letter and it says “scan and antinatal clinic” just as the last one did so I assume that I will see the consultant right after that one as well.

My midwife (independent) has confused me by saying that of course I won’t see the consultant, if everyone did after 20 week scan it would be carnage. But I did see him after Confused

It’s pissed me off a bit actually, I know what happened after I went for the scan. She says it’s usual
To be sent home unless there is a problem.

Yes - you either see a midwife or a consultant, depending on the outcome of the scan. I saw a consultant after mine as I have a very low placenta and now need consultant led care.

I've never seen anyone after my scan, just waited for the next appointment at 24 or 28 weeks (second baby). I think that is standard care, so great if you are offered extra. Presumably the midwife doesn't realise how your place does it but annoying you weren't listened to.

I was high risk and consultant led as well as being under the case loading midwife team - I still never saw anyone after my scans even when there was an issue identified. I think it must vary from hospital to hospital.

Never saw anyone after either of my 20 week scans. No issues but I was consultant led on one as out of area.

Thank you.

I just have no idea when I am supposed to be seeing the consultant again. I’m hoping I will see them after I have my rescan so I can ask again. But they didn’t seem to sure
Themselves last time and told me completely different things
To what the hospital booking people have! (One that I’d have growth scans from 28 weeks, but when I called the hospital to queery it as I didn’t get the appointment though they said their policy was to do them from 32).

I have an independent midwife who comes to see me at home every 4 weeks, but I want to see the consultant as this will be my 3rd c section and I’ve have complications before.

Independent Midwife should be sorting it out for me but I’m beginning to think she’s a bit useless. I booked her though a company - she’s very nice and has been a midwife on the wards for 30 years but a few things have made me feel like I’m paying out all this money and having to sort it all out myself.

Keep sorting it though, or you may slip through the net. I was forgotten a few times.

It’s a different hospital to my last two as I moved across the country. There it was so easy and I saw the consultant every 4 weeks and then every two near the end. Here no one seems to know what the other is doing!

I was meant to see my consultant after my 20 week scan but with good Friday and clinic rotas it was booked for tomorrow 23+4. I had a triage call mid week to see if I needed to be seen in person or not - I didn't as my reason for my high risk is mental not physical so we had the appointment over the phone instead as I had no other reason for attending the hospital. I think had I been having a scan they would have seen me in the clinic. I don't know about onward care as I have been changed back the mw led as the perinatal mh team are dealing with the mental health aspects.
