So the mw called and said my screening tests show a high risk of downs 1 in 23. The nt was 2.7. I am having the nifty test tomorrow. Anyone been in this situation?

I was given a1 in 13 chance of downs syndrome at the end of last year. Such a massive shock. NT was normal, it was the bloods and age that made me so high risk. Opted for NIPT at Birmingham Women's as a second screener. Came back 'highly unlikely' so decided not to proceed with amnio (fingers crossed we made the right decision). I'm now 34 weeks and all is going well. Good luck with the test results, it's a scary time but odds are it will all be fine.

Thx livefortheholidays, I think it's the waiting that is so hard. Ive heard that the NIPT tests are really accurate so like you if all came back ok I would trust in those results. I'm just praying atm x

Hi
Mine came back 1 in 15 and I had the NIPT. Came back 99.9% certain all is ok. Good luck xxx its awful waiting but worth it to know 1 way or the other

Loumadgey · 22/04/2020 18:09

Thx Geordiebabe85, I'll get the results from the test next Thursdays. Waiting is terrible. Mind flits all over the place. At least it is a week it could have been more. Ive already got 2 LO and am 31 so didnt really think about screening much, really took me by surprise. Worst thing is with covid 19 you can't see family for a hug...

Hi
Does anyone know whether the NIPT is also known as the Harmony test?
I had an early scan at 9 weeks and was told that I was initially pg with twins however one did not develop fully. As the sac is still present, I can’t have the Harmony test as it will skew the result. I’m wondering is this what the nurse was referring to. I’m also 39 so concerned about the results.

Loumadgey · 22/04/2020 20:59

Hi Vicki81
I think they are the same but others might know better than me. My MW said I couldn't do the NIPT if I was having twins. Could you have the quadruple test?

The harmony test is one type or brand of nipt( non invasive prenatal testing), there are others like Iona or panorama

Elouera · 22/04/2020 21:36

Sorry to hear that OP. I too was going to say that harmony is simply a brand name of NIPT. Same as baked beans come in Heinz brand, asda's own, branston etc- they are all baked beans.

For anyone having the NIPT, check whether they are testing it in the UK. I had it 4yrs ago, and then, many clinics still sent the test to USA. This adds extra days to the turnaround time, plus increases the risk of it getting lost.

NIPT can be done for twin pregnancies, but not when one has failed to progress.

Loumadgey · 23/04/2020 12:58

Thx Elouera, I don't know what type of NIPT it is. I thought the MW said nifty at one point but I might have got confused. but Ive been told the test will be analysed at Cardiff University Hospital x

Great news! X

Elouera · 01/05/2020 08:01

Congrats, great news!!! Flowers

Elouera · 01/05/2020 08:02

OP- does that mean that they wont offered CVS now, or is that still an option?

Loumadgey · 01/05/2020 11:52

They said I don't need one but I didn't ask if I could push for it to be sure. The nipt is 99.9 accurate so I'm taking it as read. Phew xxx thank you guys xxxx
