Hi I'm 20 weeks pregnant I last saw a midwife at 8 weeks. I went for my 12 week scan and didn't see a midwife just had the scan and they were meant to book me back the week after they called and cancelled due to covid.
My 16 week midwife appt was also cancelled again due to covid.
I've got my 20 week scan next week if it doesn't get cancelled again.
I'm in the midlands is this common at the moment due to the virus ? I haven't had a baby for 8 years it's like being a first time mom again a bit so I've forgot a lot of the procedures.

Im in the Midlands too. My midwife did my 16 week appointment as a phone appointment.
They are trying to do it over the phone or not at all though. When I went for my 12 week scan they did the normal midwife checks then. Expecting the same at 20 weeks. (I'm 15+6)

Ahhh ok I didn't get a phone one either just a text cancelling and I don't want to annoy anyone.
I'm don't think I will see a midwife next week I think it will just be the scan it's scary times going the hospital and things at the moment isn't it.

I had no midwife checks at my 12 week scan I was in for the scan and then out again didn't see anyone just the scan person.

I'd ring your midwife and ask what the plan is because they should be at least checking you're feeling well.
At my 12 week scan they did urine and blood pressure.

It is a scary time to be pregnant 😔

If it helps with my last pregnancy before Covid 19 I had a midwife at 8 and 16 weeks then at the 20 week scan there was no midwife - just a sonography right. So I went from 16 to 24 weeks without seeing a midwife. Saw a midwife at 24 weeks and then 28, then 34.

Must be different depending on where you live. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and only had my 32 weeks scan cancelled. Seen my midwife for all the regular appointments, she hasn't cancelled any so far.

This is normal unfortunately, there was a post on here last week about the new schedule for antenatal appointments during covid but I can't find the post now! Basically you'll go from booking in until 25 or 28 weeks without seeing a midwife.

maria860 · 21/04/2020 19:14

Ok as long as I know it's ok and they haven't forgot me

No that’s normal at the moment but you should ring up if you feel you have any problems because they can still see people in hospital or doctors surgeries etc if needed!

I had my babies pre covid. There were long gaps where I didn't see a midwife - about 3 months I think.

When I did see them, they took bp and measured bump. You could probably do that yourself. They gave me a couple of set lectures that were equivalent to reading a leaflet.

It was only useful in third trimester when I had questions about labour and sweeps etc.

DaisyF1986 · 21/04/2020 20:41

I'm East Mids and won't have seen mine for 20 weeks when I have my 28 week appointment :(
Booking appointment and 12 week scan were before lockdown and other scans have gone ahead as normal but without husband.
Sad isn't it, but I do get it.

Midlifebaby · 21/04/2020 23:19

I think maternity care right now is a joke. My 37w obstetrician appointment was just changed to phone / not sure how they check protein, Bp or position (was transverse at 35w scan!) how we can go from all of this “you have choices, you will be listened too, don’t miss your antenatal care” to “we’ll phone you” is pants. Rant over!

BearBlueEyes · 27/04/2020 00:30

@Midlifebaby
I totally agree. I'm shocked at what I'm reading above. Don't they have a standard or duty of care or anything of that nature? They surely can't check fetal heart beat, mother's blood pressure, urine sample etc on a phone appointment.
This is unacceptable. Rant over.
