Hi everyone , I am roughly 6 weeks pregnant( unsure exactly when ovulated as had a miscarriage last month). Went to epu and had early scan , they only saw possibly gestational sac but no yolk sac , had bloods done which doubled yesterday. Another scan booked for Tuesday. However with this pregnancy I have no symptoms at all! I’ve had 2 miscarriages in the past and one successful pregnancy , when I was pregnant with my son I was sick all the way through. Does this lack of symptoms and no yolk sac likely mean I’m having a miscarriage or does anyone have any positive stories? Thanks in advance and sorry about the long post.

Every single pregnancy is different so don't get too hung up comparing it to when you were pregnant with DS. Some people are lucky to have no symptoms or they come and go at different times.

Also the fact you aren't sure on your dates could explain the no yolk sac yet. I am fairly regular and went for a scan when I should have been 7+5 but baby only measured 6+1.... cue lots of panic but I'm now 23 weeks and baby is fine. It seems I just ovulated late that month.

The fact you don't mention any bleeding or cramps and your hcg levels doubled are all positive signs so there is nothing to suggest a miscarriage.

Good luck with your scan.

Hi thank you for your reply. I’m soo worried and just keep comparing. I know people say that each pregnancy is different , just I had every symptom going with my son. Glad your baby is okay and thank you again x

Once the HCG levels are above 2000, you may generally expect the sonographer to clearly see the gestational sac, 3000+ gestational sac and a yolk sac, 5000+ and a pole should be seen too.

If you were above these levels and the sonographer didn't find anything, seek second opinion just in case the sonographer was blind.

What were your hcg levels? 6 weeks is early and if you're a few days out on dates it could make all the difference. Why did you have the scan?

Dani00 · 19/04/2020 15:18

Hi thank you both for replying. My hcg levels were 1400+ on Thursday when I had the scan and were 3000 + on Saturday when my bloods were taken again. I’m trying not to get my hopes up for Tuesday but that’s comforting thank you! I had an early scan due to miscarriage last month and having lack of symptoms.

My current pregnancy has been in the whole a lot more symptom free than my first, I'm quite shocked how different each pregnancy can be, try not to wirrySmile xx

Dani00 · 19/04/2020 18:56

Thanks Sarah, that’s reassuring xx

I had gestational sac and no yolk sac and was sadly diagnosed with a blighted ovum HOWEVER my HCGs didn’t double and I was told that that was the pretty much definitive sign of a non viable pregnancy!

Yours doubling is a very reassuring sign so may just be too early esp if your ovulation dates are a little unsure!

Get your bloods done again if you’re really concerned x

I had a scan at 5+6 in this pregnancy, gestational sac but no yolk sac. Like you bloods doubled in 48 hours. But I had no symptoms, whereas I had hyperemesis by 5 weeks in my previous pregnancy. My first pg ended in mc so I was 100% convinced I was having another. It didn't help that the doctor read my blood tests the wrong way around initially, and said they had fallen by half!!

After clearing up that misunderstanding, I went back at 7.5 weeks and all was well, and I saw a strong heartbeat. I'm 18 weeks now and all is going great. Also, the hyperemesis kicked in about 6.5 weeks this time.

Try to just take it one day at a time. I know it's not easy when you've had bad experiences but it's impossible to tell how things will turn out at this early stage. It sounds like there's nothing right now to say that things won't be just fine.

So sorry to hear that rose!
Pippin that must have been awful. Glad that everything is going well now! Yes am trying to be calm but easier said than done , keep thinking the worst! Thanks for your replies.

How are you doing @Dani00?

Ang3113 · 23/04/2020 07:54

Just read this and hope everything went ok

Dani00 · 23/04/2020 13:45

Thanks for asking @PippinStar and ang. Scan showed little yolk sac , got to go back in 2 weeks! Feel even more un-pregnant than before it that’s possible. No sore boobs any more. Keeping my fingers crossed but trying not to get my hopes up x

I felt similarly a few months ago - not wanting to get my hopes up and just trying to take each day as it came. At least seeing a yolk sac gives some hope? A sigh that there was / is some progression. Did the ultrasound technician give any indication as to their thoughts on it?

I hope all goes well for you in 2 weeks, I know the wait is long.

pillowtalkey · 23/04/2020 15:17

Hi ,

Like the others said all pregnancies are so different with my first I had HG and was sick all the way through.

I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant and had sickness from 7-8 weeks x

Dani00 · 23/04/2020 15:53

She didn’t seem like she was in a good mood when I got in there tbh and just said I’m 5 weeks and it’s not ectopic etc. Said dates are probably further behind as on the back of a miscarriage. Thanks very much pippin ,going to try and keep myself busy with work and my 2 year old until the mean time. I’ve had to tell my work colleagues as I’m a nurse and obviously with the current pandemic , I didn’t want to take any risks! Glad to see pregnancies are different thanks pillow x

@Dani00 Do you mind me asking you what happened? I am in the exact same position and looking for some info

Dani00 · 09/03/2021 13:22

Yes , went back in a couple of weeks and there was a little bean with a heartbeat there. Spent the rest of my pregnancy with horrendous sickness (was throwing up right until the moment he came out).
