First trimester tea and coffee aversion

Has anyone else experienced this!? I was such a coffee fiend and used to have lots, along with several cups of tea a day. I’m now 9 weeks pregnant and cannot even stand the thought of it. Making my husband a cup makes me gag!
I know this is probably a good thing due to caffeine being potentially problematic in pregnancy but wondered if anyone has experienced similar and their taste for it eventually returned?! And if so, when?

Does anyone else have any real aversions? I’m also gagged by avocado, spicy food and eggs-again all things I used to love!! 🤢 🤢 🤢

I was a big coffee drinker and since I found out I'm pregnant I can't even think about drinking it! I've switched to decaf tea and I never drank tea lol but it seems to settle my stomach on a morning Grin

Tushka9 · 14/04/2020 16:08

Can't wait when my coffee aversion kick in 😀. I'm 5-2 now but seems not ready skipping my morning coffee yet

MadameDePompadour · 14/04/2020 17:02

Phew thanks for your replies everyone one-I’m glad I’m not the only one missing out on my fave hot drinks and hoping everyone is feeling better soon! No cravings, just can’t really stand the thought of anything -living in ryvita hummus and apples!
Really agree with the post about being tired and needing a caffeine boost but just can’t even contemplate it. Tried drinking horlicks, ginger tea and mint tea a few weeks in but I can’t bear those now either. Just about managing hot water with a squeeze of lemon. Also gutted as I put in a massive order of Nespresso capsules just before I found out I was pregnant - just sat there clogging up my cupboard now 😭.

@Soubriquet I hear you! On my fourth pregnancy here and as usual, zero want for the hot drinks, especially tea and coffee.

But yet again I predict after pushing this baby out when they wheel the tea round I will drink about 8 cups in succession!

Mucklowe · 15/04/2020 08:11

Until about 15 weeks I had aversions to most things except plain white carbs! Totally went off my beloved tea and coffee. Now at 20 weeks the aversions have gone, all except coffee which still makes me heave.

KitKatKit · 15/04/2020 08:43

Yep, usually only had one big mug of tea first thing in the morning but found from about week 5 it was making me feel worse. I'm now week 13 and still haven't had a cup! I've been drinking a Pukka fennel, aniseed and cardamom herbal one every morning instead, that seems to keep my stomach settled.

MrsBricked · 15/04/2020 08:46

I normally am constantly drinking tea and coffee couldn’t bear it in both my pregnancies knocked me sick 🤢 the thought of it - couldn’t even make one for someone else.

sel2223 · 15/04/2020 09:06

Even the thought of coffee made me sick in the first trimester but that went completely by about week 14. Now I'm craving it!

Gin4thewin · 15/04/2020 09:08

Yep, i used to pretty much survive on coffee and instantly went off it, could only just about manage iced coffee. DD is 5 months old now, still not drank any 😒

JesseDolly40 · 15/04/2020 10:12

Totally gone off tea! I was a 5-cup-a-day girl and now, cannot stand to look at a cup, let alone sip it. My husband keeps offering me a cup each morning, which is strange as a) I keep emphatically stating how the thought of tea makes me want to puke and b) I was always up before him to make the tea...so this daily offer is a new, torturous thing!!!

MadameDePompadour · 15/04/2020 11:28

@JesseDolly40 haha husbands are great aren’t they😂

I went off coffee until about 16 weeks. I was fine with tea. My worst drink aversions were water and ginger tea..... Didn't help my pregnancy sickness!!

Zoey92 · 15/04/2020 14:09

You name it i went off it.
I still cant face lasange 😂🤷‍♀️
I was a massive iced caramel latte drinker & hot nescafe caramel coffee

I completely went off it till i was about 17weeks. I'm now 30wks, I'm drinking maybe 2/3cups of coffee a week just being carefull with the caffeine intake obviously.

Definitely missing having egg though 😂 im craving dippy egg! 😂

Zoey92 · 15/04/2020 14:11

@Superscientist i was sick to death of people telling me to "sip on water or drink or eat ginger " you feel like screaming "do you not think ive tried that!"

EastMidsMumOf1 · 15/04/2020 14:14

Yep. This is my first pregnancy where my aversion to coffee has lasted this long (12wks) have only just started to manage tea this week, although only Earl Grey not my usual pg tips!

MyBeloved · 15/04/2020 14:14

1st pregnancy I went off tea and coffee (boy)
2nd pregnancy I still enjoyed tea and coffee (girl)

Yippity · 15/04/2020 14:16

I couldn’t bear either tea or coffee for the whole of my pregnancies.

Also went off eggs, bread and fried food.

Dimosaur · 15/04/2020 14:19

Yes!
I went off tea completely until 25 weeks!
And even then could only stomach a cup every few days!

MerryDeath · 15/04/2020 21:05

yes i went on and off all types of tea in both pregnancies

Anupama003 · 24/03/2021 03:47

I was a huge tea tanker... I cannot imagine my day without tea. When i was pregnant with my first baby, i suddenly didn't want to have tea anymore. Suddenly. Rather i would not even like the thought of it. Didn't consume any tea my whole pregnancy. But i got back on track after i delivered. What was surprising.. 1 year later i started to feel the same aversion for tea which made me suspicious and i got a positive urine pregnancy test. Nature knows what's bad for babies.

PippityChippity · 24/03/2021 09:14

I’m a serial tea addict prior to pregnancy but the thought of it at the moment is just horrendous. I haven’t touched a cup since I was about 6 weeks and am now 11+4 and the urge has not come back! The smell of my OH coffee has made me nearly vomit on a number of occasions. Even thinking of the smell makes my throat catch now!

jules5232 · 24/03/2021 15:42

I am justing starting to get my taste for coffee and tea back slowly and I am 11+6. The smell and taste when I first sipped it again around 5 weeks made me sick. I had a decaf cappuccino a few days ago and it tasted wonderful but still felt a little unwell after drinking. I also cant stand the thought of any cooked vegetables or chicken which I normally love.

Luckyelephant1 · 24/03/2021 16:41

I was a coffee fiend before pregnancy too. I was one of those people that was like a zombie before my morning coffee and that first sip was always pure bliss and made me feel human.

From about week 5 I went off coffee completely, was still fine with tea though so I started having tea in the morning instead. I'm 24 weeks now, I think around week 19 I tried a coffee and found it OK again but it's nothing like that bliss feeling I used to have before pregnancy, maybe because it's decaf. I really hope that feeling comes back one day 😂
