My pregnancy test has a line going the wrong way when I hold it to good lighting? Am I testing too early ? So many questions sorry.

I took a test this morning as it is now 2 weeks today since me and my boyfriend did the deed. My period was due yesterday according to my app on my phone. I must point out that my periods vary each month, I wouldn't class myself as very irregular as I have about 10 periods a year, it's just sometimes my cycles can be as early as 26 days and as late as 56 days. So, it's really hard to pin point when my next period will be.
I had my last period starting on the 1st March, I took some ovulation strip tests to see when I was ovulating and it had two dark lines on the 21st and 22nd March (which was 2 weeks ago)

So I took a test this morning at about 06:45am, a clear blue accurate 6 days before you're due kind of test. I was watching the dye fade across the screen and I saw what looked like a very faint line going the wrong direction, I then tried to find it in some good lighting again and I can see that the test strip goes the complete different way.

I know that you shouldn't hold the test up to sunlight as it can show a line that isn't really there, but why can I even see a line that's going the complete opposite direction?

Is this a faulty test?
Am I testing too early?

Please send me lots of sticky baby dust!
Thank you xDaffodil

That test is not valid I'd say. Repeat with first morning urine with FRER (those are the best for testing early).

I had one like this in 1997 😳

Was not pregnant at the time but was too young and dumb to have wondered if it was a chemical... Phoned the Clear Blue helpline and they told me to test again in two days, by which time my period had come.

Looks faulty, disregard the test and try again x

Sorry, I think you've got a faulty test there.
Can you get hold of a pink dye test? I find them more sensitive at picking up early pregnancy.
Good luck

Try a First Response test, they are meant to be the most sensitive :)

Hi, i can only see the line properly when I hold it against light, when I look at it in normal lighting it's quite hard to tell, squinting a lot.

Do you reckon there's a line going horizontal in all the tests just because that's how they're made. I only say this because a few months ago when I took a test from clear blue it was the exact same thing, a line in the wrong direction when held in good lighting.

I've ordered some FRER tests off amazon which I'll wait to take in a few days time.

Fingers crossed

Honestly I never held them up to the light so I couldn't advise I'm afraid.
Keeping fingers crossed for you x
