As above just been told my first appointment (tomorrow) will be over the phone.

Not got too much of an issue with this other than that I thought they took bloods and urine samples to test for certain things?

Is that right, I am slightly concerned about my iron levels and was hoping that I could mention this at my appointment!

Has anyone had theirs over the phone, if so were bloods mentioned?

Hi there. I had my booking appointment on the phone yesterday with my local midwife and I’m 8 weeks. She then gave me an appointment to attend the local children’s centre on Monday to have my bloods done. I’m going to be consultant led as I am hypothyroid and prev gestational diabetes. Your right OP it is an odd time to be pregnant but they’re just trying to limit the amount of time we have to attend. And yes I’m also worried about attending scan alone as I suffered multiple SCH and bleeding In my prev pregnancy. Just ensure you voice any concerns on the phone today and hopefully you will get an appt for bloods ect. Good luck Smile

They do usually test blood and urine at the first appointment, I’ve been pregnant seven times and they have always taken those. The blood test is to test your iron level and for things such as HIV, syphillis, rubella immunity etc. Surprised they will be skipping those for you, they’re fairly important!

I have my first appt this week over the phone too.
I have been asked to go in for my bloods taken tomorrow however.

Hope yours goes well.

Just wanted to update you all that I had my midwife appointment today - initially over the phone and it went well.

They then had me in this afternoon to take my blood and urine and hand me my paper notes. All in all really happy and less hassle than I expected :)

So for anyone else in the same situation don’t worry :)

Was also told that the tests they do for downs, Edwards etc will be done with the midwife at 15 weeks - they are not doing them at the 12 week scan (in my area anyway) to reduce the risk at the hospitals.

Just wanted to thank you for updating this OP, was just doing a quick search of previous threads as I have found myself in a similar position re my booking in appt and was worried about how they'd do the full panel of tests over the phone. I also knew others would have been left in the same boat and knew there'd be threads on it, so I appreciate you taking the time to come back and say what happened. That's helped me a lot. Hope your pregnancy is progressing well!

OP what's stopping you popping an e-mail to your midwife? Or ringing the unit to let them know youd prefer a face to face as your have some things your not comfortable discussing over the phone? They can't help you or understand you if they aren't aware of your situation they're amazing at what they do but unfortunately mind reading isn't part of their job! I don't want to sound like a bitch but you also need to help yourself in order for others to be able to help you! Trust me I've been there x
