Hi Guys,

My work has closed and asked me to give my permission to be Furlough. So this is basically saying I will stay on the payroll but wont get any work. I was wondering if anyone knows how that might effect my eligibility for maternity pay when it comes up. I am currently 13 weeks so it's still early days but I am worried about how long this lock down is going to last for and how it's going to affect my family.

Does anyone know if you can still be entitled to maternity pay or allowance if your Furloughed staff?

It looks like you’ll still get mat leave as us usual, but if it reduces your pay in the qualifying period (ie to 80%) then this might affect how much you get paid

From what I understand, If furlough means your pay drops below £118 (£120 from April) during the calculation period for Statutory maternity pay, this would mean you wouldn’t qualify for SMP but you could still get Maternity Allowance.

Hopefully the email I linked to above is listened to and the situation is made clearer for us all Confused

Hello

I'm in the same position but I'm 18 weeks and in my qualifying weeks, my HR manager looked into furlough and it doesn't affect SMP eligibility however like the other post said it might affect how much money you receive for the first 6 weeks.

Hope that puts your mind at ease?
