Hi risk - first consultant appointment

Hi all,

With my DD3 I had a low risk pregnancy but had one high blood pressure reading a couple of days before I had her. It went straight back down and after being monitored for a while, it turned out I was already in labour. Labour straight forward, healthy daughter, but placenta got stuck (and caused a PPH there and then) so had to go to theatre afterwards. Was rubbish, but all in all fine. Had a debrief and they said I was just unlucky.

Fast forward to now and I'm expecting baby 2 (15+ weeks). At booking appointment midwife said that because of blood pressure reading I was now high risk, and would need consultant care. So diligently taking my aspirin as prescribed. I have my first consultant appointment tomorrow (and cause of COVID) won't have DH with me. Any ideas what I should expect? Is it just a chat? To be honest, I'm much more worried about the PPH happening again than the blood pressure. Any experiences? Thanks so much, anxiety through the roof!

It's just a chat for you to meet each other he/she may look through your notes and transfer you back to midwife led care all depends on what happens last time and if they think it will happen again I wouldn't worry too much of through the whole pregnancy you only had one high reading and nothing came of it

I’d have thought it was more the pph and retained placenta than a high BP reading that makes you higher risk.

Were you medicated? Go into hospital for it?

I was consultant led and it was fine. Just had more tests throughout pregnancy and occasional chats with consultant. If anything it put my mind at rest that if there were problems it would be picked up pretty quickly. Congrats. Smile

Thanks all.

@BlueCookieMonster for the PPH? It was plants removal in theatre then they gave me a drip which contracted my placenta to stop the bleeding (so overnight in delivery room).
For the high blood pressure, they didn't give me anything as it went down whilst on the monitor in triage. They then gave me a sweep, said I was already 2cm and that they'd book me in for an induction on my due date but said they'd see me sooner than that! And they were right, I was in 24 hrs later to have her. No drugs for bp.
