Hi all,

Teacher here -26 weeks pregnant. Just wondering how everyone else is feeling about working in schools and the spread of coronavirus? I’m feeling quite vulnerable and although it’s great that kids don’t seem to suffer badly from Coronavirus -I feel a bit like Boris doesn’t really care too much about the staff who work at schools and may suffer more! I understand it would cause huge social disruption-but also find it frustrating when I’m hearing about others working from home!

Also interested to hear if you schools are taking any special measures?

All the best.

@IWantAPetUnicorn have they done your RA yet? Having mine done showed high risk which then led to me WFH. In the end if something happens to you your head could be prosecuted under the H&S at work act.....hopefully they'll tread cautiously?
If not maybe take mat leave early? I was going to do this. Or get the doctor to sign you off?
The thing I am most worried about is my breathing.....it's hard enough to breath 3rd tri without this bloody virus!!!
It sounds like all schools are fairly late in the day sorting out this stuff for us all!
I hope it goes ok.....everyone keep us all updated with hoe you all get on x

Had to jump on, I was talking to a friend who teaches in Dubai and e measures they have how how rubbish the system is here for us.

Everyone has had to play for a coronavirus test 3 days before the term starts and have to prove h the negative result.

Teachers all have full Ppe provided, like they were nurses.

No packed lunches or equipment to be brought into school.

No uniform and children must wear clean fresh clothes daily.

Any sign of a anyone in the class with symptoms they all have to isolate for 2 weeks inch the teacher and to be tested before school commences.

We have nothing!

IWantAPetUnicorn · 28/08/2020 00:00

@gettingupearlyzzzz no RA yet. I have asked for one.

Pinktruffle · 28/08/2020 00:17

I gotba response from HR, they are referring my email to the MAT for advice till a waiting game for me.

pinkflamingo561 · 02/09/2020 17:27

Im 35 weeks. My pregnancy risk assessment wasn't done before lockdown. I emailed to ask about this and they sent a risk assessment and said this needs to be discussed and filled in with my hod. The risk assessment that I have been sent however doesn't mention anything to do with covid.....

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/09/2020 17:57

@ALC1985

Lots of pregnant woman are in much worse situations with no option to work at home

Out of interest, what jobs would this be? I can’t think of any that are much worse?

OverTheRainbow88 · 02/09/2020 17:57

I’m putting of trying for our third because of covid and teaching in a huge school.

ALC1985 · 03/09/2020 17:02

@OverTheRainbow88 for a start a doctor..... do you think teaching is a worse situation than a doctor? Cone on! If you want me to list more what about paramedics, nurses, police officers, care assistants and prison officers, i could list more? ........

OverTheRainbow88 · 03/09/2020 17:17

GPs and doctors have full PPE and doing most their appointments on the phone. GP see about 20 patients a day max whilst wearing PPE and the patient is wearing a mask usually. Nurses and paramedics also can wear full PPE.

Prison officer must admit no idea... assume they can limit visitors etc so could keep covid out. Once in yes that’s a problem.

Police officers also a shite one agreed...

Secondary Teachers see about 300 kids a kid with no PPE and kids aren’t wearing masks!

Pinktruffle · 03/09/2020 17:41

@OverTheRainbow88 I'd ignore ALC1985, Mumsnet is full of teacher haters. We are just here to look after their kids all day and apparently deserve to shut up and put up, who cares about our safety and wellbeing?!

ALC1985 · 04/09/2020 10:36

@Pinktruffle lol!

Pinktruffle · 04/09/2020 12:18

@ALC1985 Such an intelligent and witty response!

BabySweet85 · 04/09/2020 20:28

How has everybody’s week been - have you felt safe?

Amwl · 04/09/2020 22:47

It's so lovely to be back from the perspective of my me tal wellbeing but bloody hell there really is no protection or distancing possible is there?! My school have tried, but if it gets in its going to spread in seconds.

I've had it confirmed that I'm not safe to be on site from my third trimester.

BabySweet85 · 05/09/2020 07:15

Yes i agree on the social distancing - once it’s in it will spread. Who confirmed about your third trimester? My school haven't said anything yet. @Amwl

DisneyGirl2387 · 05/09/2020 07:45

I'm primary and I'm in school. I'm 31 weeks and have been teaching 2 days with y1 and 3 days working from home (still paid for 5). I am EYFS lead so they have moved me out of there and put me in Y1 so it is 'safer' but it is still very hard to socially distance!

Amwl · 05/09/2020 08:40

@BabySweet85 I sent the info I shared earlier in the thread with my HT, who forwarded it to the HR department of my MAT. They've decided to follow the Dfe guidance which says to follow the RCoOG guidance for pregnant workers.

MrsR87 · 05/09/2020 09:47

@BabySweet85

Not really. Not blaming the school, they are doing all that they can but it’s impossible to follow the guidance at all times. I’m 30 weeks so feeling apprehensive about it all, especially as two midwives have said I shouldn’t be in. I had my risk assessment earlier this week and it does feel like they may be gearing up to sign me off in a month or so.

As a pp said it’s nice in terms of having some normality but I feel a little isolated as I’m not really using the staff room as 20 of us use it (most breaks at the same time) at its really small! Staying in my room and making my drinks from a flask!
