Too early for 12 week scan?

I've got my BFP this week (woohoo) and I have self referred to the antenatal facilities at my local hospital. As I live in London I assumed they would be busy and there might be a bit of a wait. I have my booking appt at approx 8 weeks but I've had a letter for my scan when I'll be 9 weeks. Is this too early? I'd hate to waste everyone's time & have to book a 2nd "12 week" scan
Any experiences? Thanks!

My 12w scan was booked at what we thought was 12w according to my dates. It was measuring at 11w+3, they booked me another scan a week later as they wanted to make sure I was 12w so they can do the necessary abnormality checks.

I would also add that actually, I loved having to go back for another scan! Get as many as you can get as they are few and far between

It can be any time between 8-14 weeks, of dates are off and it’s too soon they’ll rescan

As far as I know, if you want the NT testing to check for abnormalities etc then you need to be a bit more than that for it to be accurate, but I could be wrong...

That's reassuring, thanks! I guess I just didn't want to be told "you're too early but there are no other appointments available for 2 years" (exaggeration I know)

I had a scan at 7 weeks - just make sure it's an internal one because they won't be able to see anything (I don't think) at 8 weeks from an external one, so you might end up getting a wrong result which will be incredibly upsetting for you. Good luck!

aneliese · 07/03/2020 21:56

Sorry you said 9 weeks - even then I'd make sure it's an internal scan.

Treaclepie19 · 08/03/2020 08:55

It is too early for the nuchal measurement yes but they'll scan you and tell you that and then rebook.

BathshebasBane · 08/03/2020 09:09

Give them a call and say the scan has been booked to early. If you want the NT done it needs to be a little closer to 12 weeks. Worse case they'll scan you say your too early and make you come back at 12 weeks

I've had plenty of external scans between 6-9 weeks and seem baby & heart beat so it doesn't need to be an internal

I went early with my first, by mistake because I had my dates wrong. And they couldn't do it. They did look but could see what they needed to so had to re book. Just check your dates are right

EssElsiee · 08/03/2020 09:32

I had one at 6 weeks as was unsure of dates.. they did it abdominally. They saw heartbeat and baby so didn’t need to go back again until 12 week scan and at my 12 week scan I actually measured 13 weeks so was 7 weeks at my first scan but it’s so hard
To tell when it’s so small x
