Combined Test - what to expect?

Hi ladies, I'm currently bricking it for my dating scan tomorrow afternoon Confused I've also opted for the combined test for Down's/Edward's/Patau's.

Will the sonographer tell me the results of the screening test then and there or will I have to wait for a letter/appointment to discuss? I know it also involves a blood test, do they do that at the scan or is it from the bloods they took at my booking in?

What were your experiences?

They will tell you whether the nuchal fold is normal or not, but cannot give you definitive results until you have your blood test as well.

Expect a phone call if high risk within the next couple of days, otherwise no news and a letter through the post within 7 working days.

You receive the results in the post about a week or two later, if it’s bad news they’ll call you.

I had my 12 week scan last Monday and like you opted for the test. When I went into the scan they asked me whether I was wanting to have it done (I think she hadn't seen the form filled out in my notes) and I said yes and it's a measurement they take of the baby's neck which my sonogropher did have a bit of trouble getting and wasn't happy with it to start with but after a few more attempts she eventually she got it and was happy. I then had to go and sit back out in the waiting room as then you have a blood test done which was fine I was then told that if there were any problems I would hear from them within 3 days if everything was fine then a letter would be sent out in around 10 days, I didn't receive a call thank goodness so just waiting to receive my letter through the post. Hope this helps.

Thanks ladies, I was hoping I'd be free of worry by tomorrow afternoon but clearly not 😂

At my dating scan I had a high nt of 4.2 was taken into another room where a midwife came to speak to me she told me because of the nt my combination results would be high risk as the nt bumps the average up do u may have a rough idea tomorrow my midwife rang me the next day to day I had a 1:25 chance of downs 1:60 chance of the other 2 I went in to discuss my options had amnio done and all results came back clear so you can still get a good result in the end even if you are high risk

I got my blood results during the scan appt (bloods were done just before). I think it depends what hospital you are at.

DappledThings · 19/02/2020 17:14

Depends on the hospital. Mine send you away for a coffee for about an hour after the scan then you come back and discuss results that day

sel2223 · 19/02/2020 17:47

It must depend on the hospital. I had my scan first and sonographer told me NT was normal then I had blood taken straight after the scan.
They said i'd hear within 3 days if high risk or would get a letter within a week or 2.
I got my letter yesterday, 6 days later (all good)
