I know he's bigger than average, but how big will he be?

at my 20 week scan i was told my baby is in the 95% for size and i was booked in for a 32 week growth scan. i had this last week when i was 32+3 weeks. from this scan they said he had a big head (not surprising given the father!) which is nothing to worry about apparently, and the current weight was around 5lb 4oz. what they didn't say, and i never thought to ask, was what this might indicate his birth weight might be if i go to term.

i am booked in to have another scan at 36 weeks and to be honest, i really want them to say they are going to induce as i'm quite nervous about it all this time around and especially worried if the baby gets too big.

does anyone have any idea/experience of what potential birthweight might be based on current estimated weight?

Another one here - ds1 - small bump - 9lbs. Ds2 - huge bump, looked larger on scans, predicted 10lbs - arrived at 7lbs 3 oz.

I was huge with no. 2 but nobody predicted the 11lb he arrived at.

oh lord, 11lb, that's exactly what i'm afraid of!!! when i had my first baby (induced at 41 weeks without incident - though also without any decent medical care but that's another story!) there was a woman from my ante natal class who'd had an 11lb 4oz baby the day before. they knew she was having a large baby but had no idea he'd be THAT big so they let her deliver naturally. it took hours and hours and the poor woman was utterly pooped. That's what i'm really scared of, that they'll get it wrong like they did with her. i'd be so much happier if they just induced. i can feel my bp rising already....!

I measured bigger than dates with DS2 and was told to expect a big baby (although thankfully nobody frightened the life out of me saying he would be massive). My DS1 was 8lb 8oz and then said DS2 would be over 9lb, turned out he was 9lb 1/2 oz and a much easier quicker delivery than DS1 was.

You are not on course for a 11lb baby, if you are going to believe what they are going to say then, you are on course for a 9lber, and 2nd baby will slide out in comparison, if you are induced the whole labour process will be crammed into twenty four hours, if you let things go it will be spread over the last few weeks, go and have a chocolate biscuit and pat yourself on the back for having given your baby the best start you could.

I am measuring 2 weeks bigger than du date, and we know the dates are spot on, i haven't been offered a growth scan even though our first baby was born 10lb 9.5oz! Is this something the midwife would recommend or do you have to ask?

My first was 7lb. My second pregnancy (which felt pretty similar) resulted in me giving birth without any pain relief in 90 mins at home (unintentionally just cos it happened so quickly) to an 11lb 3 oz baby Noone picked up on anything about his size in pregnancy. And the experience was absolutely fine. I just kept remembering what my pregnancy yoga teacher had told us that size didn't make a difference to ability to push the baby out (you just might have to have a second push on the shoulders). And she was right!

My ds measured big all the way through and was 10.6lb. Labour was just over 4 hours start to finish, I made the hospital with 27 minutes to spare! I had no pain relief, tore a bit but not bady and was home 6 hours later.

Size really makes no difference to the legnth or difficulty of labour -my sil had a horrendous time delivering a 6.5lb-er and a straightforward 10 hours with a 9lb-er. Try not to worry! easy for me to say, I know....
