Maternity jeans at 9 weeks?

I am feeling massive at the moment because I have just got some maternity jeans as my normal jeans were uncomfortably tight around my tummy - I am a size 12. I am only 9 weeks though with my first (second pregnancy, first preg ended v. early) and when I've read about when people usually start to wear maternity jeans/clothes it's a lot later than 9 weeks!! But when I weighed myself this morning I'd lost 2 lbs.

Is this normal!? Has anyone else had to wear maternity jeans really early? I dont know if it's just from bloating because my tummy feels really sensitive atm and I had to unbuttoned my other jeans every time I ate.

I feel like my tummy is way bigger for how it's meant to be at this early stage! I think I might have to tell work sooner than I'd planned to because I dont know how I can hide it.

Yes, the bloating! I then got back in normal jeans after it reduced until 18/19 weeks when I had to crack them out again.

I got some at about 10 weeks and the relief was wonderful!
I never lost my bloating, it just gradually turned to bump Grin so I lived in maternity jeans and leggings from an early stage.

It definitely sounds like bloating to me, which is very real and still a good reason to buy clothes that fit!

Are you constipated? That will make the bloating worse because it creates a build up of air. Try to follow the usual advice for constipation in pregnancy, and it all else fails, Lactulose.

You can tell the difference between bloat and a bump by how it feels when you press (bad bloating can be hard but still not as hard as a bump). If you're handy at that sort of thing you can also tell by the resonance (if you tap and it sounds hollow, it's bloating).

@RyvitaBrevis Yes I have been constipated. I ate about 30 prunes over 2 days the other day and it still didnt help! Can you buy lactulose over the counter? I have been trying to drink loads of water.

It feels squishy, apart from a tiny teeny roll right at the bottom below a scar from previous surgery which feels firm, but it's honestly tiny compared to the rest of my tummy!!

@BigGreenBaskets @NewYearNewJobNewHome

That's good to hear others have had to get maternity Jean's for bloating also. Makes me feel less like it's me that's doing something wrong/not eating right!

I've had to move up a size in work trousers yet I've gained no weight at all. The bloat is real 😅

RyvitaBrevis · 10/02/2020 21:07

Yes, you can buy Lactulose over the counter, thankfully. It works partially by softening things, so if you're blocked up it can help to create a breakthrough, and will also hopefully prevent piles. It took a few days to work for me, not an instant fix, but it affects everyone differently and depends on how bad things are. It's very sweet but the sugar is a form that can't be digested by the body so it doesn't add calories. Massive sympathy.

I have an entire wardrobe designed around bloating, but even with maternity clothes the degree of bloating changes from one day to the next and some things are feeling tight.

Yep! I had to go all out maternity wear at 8wks, usually a size 10 but everything was suddenly far too small Blush! Massively bloated and still am at 11wks!

megletthesecond · 10/02/2020 23:29

yes, I did both times.
