Bleeding in early pregnancy, please help 😔

Hi all,

I hope someone can help.

I have endometriosis and have had two surgeries. My last surgery was the end of November and I then came off my HRT.

My partner and I are desperate for a family, however, the doctors told us it may take months for the hormone therapy to leave my system, so we weren't actively trying but weren't preventing either.

My periods didn't really return after my surgery, so we assumed I wasn't ovulating. Then on Tuesday night of this week, I started bleeding at about 9pm. I instantly took a pregnancy test and it was positive, so we called the out of hours doctor in a panic and were seen shortly after.

The out of hours doctor said that he hoped it was just implantation bleeding, but he said to keep an eye on it and if it got heavier or more painful, to call my GP and arrange a scan.

Yesterday (Wednesday) I noticed that the bleeding was getting heavier in the afternoon, so I called my GP and they called me in urgently. I was examined and sent to the gynae ward at the hospital for bloods and observation, which all looked pretty good. They told me I would be booked in for an ultrasound the following day and we went home.

Today (Thursday) I received a call at 11am inviting me for a scan in the afternoon, so my partner and I attended the hospital. The external ultrasound didn't show anything, so the sonographer carried out an internal ultrasound and was able to see a gestation sack with some membranes and what she thought was a very faint yolk. I was then invited back for a scan in another week to see if they could see more and I went to see the doctor.

I have had a blighted ovum a few years ago, so I asked the doctor if my scan looked similar to that and he said that there was actually evidence of membranes etc. in the gestation sack, whereas with a blighted ovum, the sack is usually empty.

The doctor said that my HCG hormone level in my urine was 18,000 last night and the sonographer estimates I am about 5 weeks pregnant based on the sack, which seems positive. However, I am still bleeding and have been since Tuesday night, so I was just wondering if anyone else has had bleeding in early pregnancy without a miscarriage? My partner and I are so terrified, and we would just like to hear some stories from other parents if possible.

Thank you very much in advance xx

I had three separate bleeds in my first trimester! I'm staring at my 9 week old now 😊 however, please call your early pregnancy unit! You probably won't be reassured until you speak to professionals... I hope it all settles down for you!

Hi,

I'm sorry that you're going through such a scary thing. I know how scary it is especially when it's a very much wanted baby.

I'm currently 23+1 weeks pregnant and I've had three bleeds. The first at 8 weeks, 2nd at 10 weeks and a 3rd at 15 weeks. 1st one was the worst (bright red blood) and lasted about 2-3 days.

Is the bleed getting lighter? Xx

So sorry to hear that- it is incredibly stressful.
I have severe endo and adenomyosis (found out recently but it explains so much). And had bleeding in my first much-longed for pregnancy, first trimester. I had sudden hush of bright red blood that would soak me And then taper off and stop. The cycle repeated for a few weeks but each time I had a scan my baby was fine- she is now 8. 🥰 it was a subchronionic hematoma in my case. I had two MCs and they were more
constant bleeding with pain. very best of luck to you, try to rest as much as possible xxxxx

@MrsR16 thank you ❤️ I've been in and out of the early pregnancy unit and they have been extremely helpful and supportive. I have another scan booked for the 13th in the morning so fingers crossed.

@Meadows89 thank you for your message, and huge congratulations ❤️ what an amazing time for you, but I'm sorry to read about the bleeding. I think it may be getting lighter but I think I'm just in panic mode to be honest, every little drop of blood is making me panic. I really hope my scan on the 13th is ok 😢

@Busymummy16 what a beautiful message, thank you so much. You have made me feel so much better. How do they diagnose that? And is it possible to have at 5 weeks?

Thank you all again xxx

Hi there @endoel yes I had bleeding at 5 weeks- it started on new year’s eve when we were abroad 😱😱 and carried on until week 9.
When I got home my hospital diagnosed subchronionic hematoma. They could see the area of blood. It would pass away, then the cycle of gushing blood and tapering off would start again.

My baby was early (37.5 weeks) which I put down to this bleeding; anecdotally seemed to be the case that SCH caused early deliveries.

Wishing you all the luck in the world.

Endo is a b!&ch - it has caused me so many problems for such a long time.

Best of luck x

So I had my 6 week scan today and it was as I suspected - missed miscarriage. Thus my my second one and my fourth miscarriage overall. Heartbroken, but thank you for your support 💔
