Antihistamines when pregnant?

Helloo, I suffer with really sensitive skin on my legs and I’ve had a reaction after changing our washing powder and my legs have came up in a huge rash, they’re red, itchy, sore and bleeding as I’ve scratched them to bits.

Usually I would take an antihistamine which helps stop the itching when this happens, is this okay in pregnancy? I’m 12 and a half weeks.

If not, what else can I do? I’ve tried cold water, E45 cream, all sorts and nothing helps they’re so sore and itchy :(

It depends on the medicine. During pregnancy, you can take some hay fever / allergy medicines but not others because there's not enough evidence on their safety.best to check with your GP or Pharmacy

Cream wise , Mild hydrocortisone creams that you buy from a pharmacy are safe to use during pregnancy for allergic reactions.

@Lunamoon4 I took phernegan (Promethazine) throughout my second pregnancy, my gp was ok with it.

I take Citirizine daily, the doctors are fine with this, I was taking it before I got pregnant and have done ever since...I’m now nearly 21 weeks, and had my 20 week scan where there were no deformities found, so I should think this is fine. Ask your doctor to prescribe you something Smile

I was told they would rather I took nothing for severe hay fever. I was in tears it was so bad and they said no.

Some first line anti sickness drugs (like cyclizine) are anti histamines so there should be one you can take, but definitely take doctors advice.

Get some doublebase from the pharmacy, it’s a cream or gel and amazing! I had an allergic reaction to insect bites and it helped with the itch/scratch cycle. Everyone can use.

Of course double check but my doctor in the hospital let me take piraton for a rash!
