Stretch marks during pregnancy - when did they appear?

I’m 34 weeks and oiling like a lunatic and no sign yet. But I have got very faint ones on my boobs and hips from puberty so I assume they’re en route.

When did you get them, if at all?

Didnt get them. Twins 38 weeks.

Reginabambina · 03/02/2020 13:47

At the very end when the baby ‘dropped’. I think it must have been the sudden change in pressure on the skin that cause it to split.

lumpy76 · 03/02/2020 13:50

8 pregnancies- no stretch marks (although skin certainly less elastic now but I am in my 40s) It's my understanding that stretch marks are largely a genetic thing ie you either get them or you don't. I got varicose veins instead 😏 Like my mother and her father! (Again they're very often genetic).

Didn't get them, DD born at 42/3 weeks!

(My Mum had masses, so I'm not sure it's hereditary)

I didn't put on much more than the weight of my baby though.

annlee3817 · 03/02/2020 14:00

I had them on my boobs and hips from earlier years, but didn't get any in pregnancy and I didn't use oils or moisturiser.

Teacaketotty · 03/02/2020 14:02

Not until after I gave birth, they appeared as my belly shrunk back down. Thought I had got away with it!

R2D2abc · 03/02/2020 14:11

I have no idea with my first when they appeared. Sometime when I couldn't see under my bump. I used a special body lotion made for it in pregnancy but didn't help at all. Studies show it's due to genetics.

Everyone gets them at different stages or doesn't get them at all.

MsSquiz · 03/02/2020 14:14

I have (now faded) stretch marks from gaining and losing weight in my teens, but didn't get a single stretch mark in pregnancy (went full term)
I did moisturise nightly from 3 months pregnant onwards, no idea if it helped or not

river12 · 03/02/2020 14:28

I thought I was getting away with no stretchmarks during pregnancy, then right at the end they suddenly appeared! They were very low down and faded quickly so I don't mind them really.

Shmithecat2 · 03/02/2020 14:29

Didn't get them. So relieved, as my mum and sister both got them bad.

yadayadayesokay · 03/02/2020 14:36

First pregnancy I got none until she went overdue by 12 days, then I got a few around my belly button. Almost 40 weeks again now but got a few much earlier on around the same area, even though I’m smaller this time. I slathered myself in bio oil all the way through each time so I’m not sure it makes any difference.

38 weeks this week and about last week I noticed at the bottom/front of my belly there's a few starting to creep up!
I've been moisturising nightly the entire pregnancy so not sure

Motherhippo · 03/02/2020 15:46

Didn't get stretch marks until after birth. I EBF so belly shrink back quite quickly. I've now got stretch marks on my tummy and boobs

Bluebutterfly90 · 03/02/2020 15:50

Quite late, like 38 to 39 weeks. Thought I had avoided them entirely, but nope!

Dont have a lot, though, just a few either side of my belly button. I don't mind them, though.

chooseausername · 03/02/2020 15:53

I got a few after I gave birth. Like a few other posters, I thought I had got away with it too. Don't stop after baby has arrived!

LizziesTwin · 03/02/2020 15:56

38 weeks. First one appeared the day after my 30th birthday. Had been rubbing in oil etc but suddenly saw what looked like a rip in my skin. Only gained 1 ½ stone in total with an 8lb 4oz baby.

worriedmama1980 · 03/02/2020 17:53

40+7, I think they were mostly hiding under my belly though. When I was shrinking back they were shocking, now they're really not noticeable

20viona · 03/02/2020 17:55

I didn't get any.

stuckinthemiddlewithtwats · 03/02/2020 18:06

I was feeling smug about not getting them. Until they appeared badly at about 35wks when baby had a growth spurt. They're getting worse now I'm 37wks.

Amanduh · 03/02/2020 19:42

40 weeks. Before that not a hint
