Unbearable abdominal pains

Hi everyone.
I joined here to get some opinions/help.
I'm currently 20 weeks pregnant and 3 weeks ago I was admitted to hospital with really bad unbearable abdominal pain on my left side. I was discharged within 24 hours with no diagnosis, bloods and urine sample all came back fine and baby was 100% fine. I had no spotting or bleeding and I felt fine in myself only for the pain. They said possibly baby lying funny or a bowl infection. Anyways its took about 2 weeks for the pain to completely go but yesterday it came back with a bang and I am in absolute agony to the point where I can hardly talk and its making me feel ill. I've tried pregnancy pillows, hot water bottle, changing lying position, I've taken paracetamol and I'm getting no relief.

Has anyone ever experienced this or has any idea of what it could be.
Any help would be appreciated

I would go back to a&e

I get abdo pain like that and it's caused by diverticulitis ( bowel infection). You mention that they talked about a bowel infection but apparently didn't do anything about that . I'd be going back to the doctor and asking for investigations for diverticulitis. Good luck.

Could it be round ligament pain ? I recall around week 17 of pregnancy I was in a lot of pain and was convinced I had kidney stones again. After a lot of tests and scams they put the pain down to my ligaments stretching.

Nhaide01 · 03/02/2020 04:27

They didnt really do any tests on me
I had bloods and urine samples taken.
They scanned my kidneys and baby
Even at that I had to beg them to scan the baby for reassurance
All came back clear.

Are your bowels working ok? Left sided abdo pain could be bowel related. If they thought it was infection, they should have taken a stool sample.

wrinkledimplelover · 03/02/2020 04:37

I would go back to A&E - and now if it's pain to the point you can't speak and it makes you sick.

Nhaide01 · 03/02/2020 04:38

Bowels seem to be working fine.
Going as normal
I increased fiber and started drinking prune juice after the last episode thinking it would help

I know you said your left side but could it be a gallbladder problem? This is quite common in pregnancy apparently. Whatever it is, you need to see your GP tomorrow. You shouldn't have to put up with terrible pain like this Flowers.

I have a really good tolerance to pain as it is but I cant described how bad and uncomfortable this pain is.

I’d go back to a and e. At least call 111 if the pain is that bad.

BusterGonad · 03/02/2020 07:20

Ditch the high fibre stuff, if you've got something wrong with your bowels then low fibre will put less strain on them. Try white bread, white pasta, no harsh grains or raw veg/salad.
But if I were you I'd get straight back to the doctor.

@Nhaide01 I’m sorry you’re in so much pain.

I had horrendous pain when I was about 5 weeks - turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst (not dangerous, just horrible!). All cleared up now.

I found that every time I went to the doctor/a&e, they’d be blinded by the fact I was pregnant and just check I wasn’t having a miscarriage - if I wasn’t, they’d give me a thumbs up and send me on my way.

That’s great, but what about me?? When the obstetricians said the baby was ok, I had to insist they gave me a diagnosis - telling me what ISNT happening is not a diagnosis! I reminded them I had other organs outside of my womb (including an appendix and bowels) and the amount of pain I was in was not normal. If they couldn’t diagnose me, a surgeon needed to see me too.

I’m a doctor myself and found it SO FRUSTRATING they’d just shrug and say ‘baby’s ok’. It was my third trip to A&E when I finally lost my rag

Sorry, posted too soon - go back to your GP or A&E. Insist on a diagnosis. If you have diverticulitis you there is dietary advice you should be following and if it’s still causing you this much pain you should potentially be treated with antibiotics.

Nhaide01 · 03/02/2020 10:14

My earilest appointment I can get with my doctor is Thursday so I think it's a trip back to A&E.

I'm exhausted, little to no sleep in 2 days

Deff go to a&e, something is causing the pain and you need to be extra safe in pregnancy 💐

Nelbert19 · 03/02/2020 21:02

@Nhaide01 how did you get on?

Nhaide01 · 03/02/2020 22:20

Hi everyone
Thank you all for the comments and advise.
I was admitted to hospital late this evening.
Still in alot of pain and they are doing tests on me in the morning.
They have said it could be PID (pelvic inflammation disease)
I never heard of it before but its very common during pregnancy.
So hopefully I'll get a dignosis in the morning.
