Hello!

When do people tend to start getting things for thier baby's arrival and start their hospital bag?

Start buying one thing a week immediately. Packed hospital bag at about 32 weeks.

abbs1 · 01/02/2020 19:00

Waited till after my 20 week scan and then started buying a few bits each week or every couple weeks so it wasnt a huge chunk all at once. I've just about finished sorting my stuff for my hospital bag and still need to put the cot up but other than that I have all I need. 31+3 weeks.

TriangleBingoBongo · 01/02/2020 19:03

I didn’t buy anything until I was 7 months. Not a stitch.

TriangleBingoBongo · 01/02/2020 19:03

Hospital bag was ready at 37 weeks because my midwife looked horrified that I hadn’t sorted it...

FlyingLemur · 01/02/2020 19:55

Started buying things around 24 weeks.

I have never packed a hospital bag. Was told off for having not done so at 33+3, ignored this (although did start buying some things for the bag), but completely unexpectedly the baby arrived 5 days later.

FlyingLemur · 01/02/2020 19:55

Moral of my story above: don’t do what I did.

Jsh125 · 01/02/2020 19:57

We bought a few things after 20 week scan. Hospital bag wasn't packed & midwife looked horrified. 37 weeks my waters broke & we had to squeeze in a trip to mothercare to get everything we needed before going to the hospital. Not a great idea Grin

Personally I want to wait until I've had my scans as I'm only 7 weeks. My mum text me the other day to say she bought a bunny comforter for the baby that she couldn't resist 😂 considering she went from omg you're pregnant Angry to omg you're pregnant Shock within days I'll go with it lol.

mumma2b2020 · 01/02/2020 21:11

Didn't start buying things until after 20 week scan but then used to buy something nearly every week. I'm 31+3 now and wrote out my hospital bag list earlier today, will get things bought and packed in the next 1-2 weeks x

Bookworm83 · 01/02/2020 21:25

Didn't start buying anything until the 3rd trimester, although my mum started shopping the moment she found out I was pregnant (first time granny!).
I started packing my hospital bag this morning (I'm 31+5), and by that I mean I got the bag out and put in it the maternity towels and disposable briefs I had bought a couple of days ago. I'll be adding to it over the next couple of weeks. Some things (toothbrush, phone charger?) will obviously be added at the last minute.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm 22 weeks pregnant and haven't got anything yet. My husband is very cautious and wants to wait until we are 25 weeks, but I think it's a lot all at once then. The time soon flies doesnt it x

I researched the big items and by chance found the pram I wanted second hand on eBay it didn't sell the first time so it was re-listed for less and I couldn't resist. I was 17 weeks.

Mybabyhasverynoisytoys · 02/02/2020 08:49

i bought two things in the second trimester but purchased the rest when I was in the third trimester. I was pretty strict with my parents and in-laws about not getting anything prior to that as I had no space!

My amazing sister got me about 80% of my hospital bag for Christmas (DD was born in February) so that helped massively. I had it all ready from 36 weeks but it didn’t make much difference. DD was 2 and a half weeks overdue.

I had to be induced and was in longer than I thought I would be so had to send DH to go out and get stuff.

thosethreewords · 02/02/2020 09:36

I've got a few baby clothes so far that I couldn't resist in the Christmas sales and a changing mat that I'd seen ages ago, which I love and was going out of stock.
I've researched the big items and know what we're getting but not buying until we've created some more space. I'm 20 weeks and hope to have most things before 32/33 weeks

Hayley94 · 03/02/2020 12:06

18 week tomorrow and have the next to me crib and tiny love. That's it. Wanting to wait til we find out what we're having. Will focus on getting the nursery decorated then start buying properly x

RhymingRabbit3 · 03/02/2020 14:30

About 30 weeks. Partly because this coincided with January sales, but also I didnt see the point in having stuff hanging around for months just getting in the way. I packed my hospital bag at about 35 weeks I think. If baby arrived any earlier than 35 weeks it would be a whole different set of stuff required in the hospital bag anyway - not much point packing 0-3 babygros and size 1 nappies for a preemie.

Pralinehalo · 03/02/2020 20:38

I'm only 8w5d but allowed myself to buy one baby outfit to help with positive thinking. Not buying anything else until at least after 12 week scan

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/02/2020 20:41

I waited until after to 20 week scan, then bought things.

Im 33 weeks pregnant now and havent sorted any hospital bags, and reading this thread makes me think I should get on with that....
