Low PAPP-A - when were you induced?

I'm definitely being induced unless I go into labour naturally before 39/40 weeks due to low Papp-a.

I'd just like to know for those who were told they had low papp-a when were you induced of you were?

I'm getting extra growth scans and have had an impaired placental blood flow so I could be induced much earlier.

Currently 27 weeks.

Guess I was lucky. I went over by a week. Was scanned weekly (for growth), put on a monitor every other day and a Doppler scan once a week to check the blood flow. They kept threatening to induce me but every time I had a scan everything seemed fine so they didn't. Went into labour naturally.
Best wishes to you.

I've got low papp a too - 0.37. Got my first consultant appointment on Friday, I'm 22 weeks, but really worried that there will be talk of early induction. I desperately want to get to at least 37 weeks but know this may be possible. It's just a constant stress.

I have low papp a, I had a consultant appointment last week at 20 weeks and he said that it wasn't something to worry about, that they will scan me again at 28 weeks and go from there, he also said that they would support my home birth request, even allowing me to go overdue. Hopefully your consultant will be as positive @Liveforholidays

I was induced on my due date with low papp-a. DD was born 3 days later. If I had my time again I would refuse induction and opt for extra monitoring instead.

This is good to hear. I know each individual case is different so keeping everything crossed that baby keeps growing as he should and that my blood pressure remains low. Have you all been on aspirin?

cezza1923 · 27/01/2020 19:20

Yes, however, I was given it as a precaution because of my age (42) at my first consultant appointment @Liveforholidays

RanchoRelaxo · 27/01/2020 20:23

I had low papp-a and was induced at 38 weeks, induction failed and baby was born by c section the next day

Brianna83 · 27/01/2020 20:27

I also have low PAPPA-a and am being induced on Friday which is my due date.

Slat3 · 27/01/2020 20:28

When I had it, I just had growth scans. Went a week over, no talk of induction. I went to the Tommy’s clinic in Manchester & everything was fine with scans though!

Longfox · 27/01/2020 21:16

I had low papp-a with my first, I was told they would not let me go over my due date, all of my growth scans he was growing beautifully, nice size as far as they could tell. I had my last midwife appointment a week before my due date and my bump measured small, even though we knew it was probably because I hadn't had my breakfast by this point, they booked me in to be induced. They admitted me the following day, took 4 days (I think) until I was ready to have my waters broken and my son arrived on his due date weighing a healthy 7lb2. I'm now pregnant again but no low papp-a this time, I'm going to really miss the extra scans! Good luck 😀

It's lovely and very reassuring to hear some positive stories. Thank you all. I didn't have low papp a with my 1st and had never heard of it so being under a consultant and then knowing I'll have additional scans this time has come as a shock. Googling hasn't helped either as well I've had in my head is very early induction, premature baby, possibility of stillbirth, pre-eclampsia, the list goes on! I have a doppler scan next week so I'm guessing that will tell me more?

2Bubbas · 28/01/2020 13:17

I've also got low papp-a in this pregnancy, and like you @Liveforholidays, I'm also super worried as I've never had it in my previous pregnancies.

I had my consultant appointment yesterday, and she didn't seem too concerned, and just told me that I would be having growth scans from week 28. She recommended me to take a low dose of aspirin, but I'm not sure what to do.

Did anyone else take asprin with low papp-a?

Danar89 · 28/01/2020 14:05

I have low pappa and was told on my 20 week scan if he is small they "will just get him out earlier" and if not I won't go past my due date.
Currently 30+1 and all fine so far and I wasn't prescribed aspirin.

Liveforholidays · 28/01/2020 14:11

@2Bubbas I've been taking 150mg of aspirin since I had my 12 week scan. Went with the advice and am trusting that it's the right thing to do. I think it seems to vary so much from trust to trust though.

Longfox · 28/01/2020 14:29

@2bubbas I was on aspirin for my pregnancy and no issues whatsoever throughout my pregnancy. I was always led to believe low Papp-A has been connected to low birthweight/premature births etc but is not the route cause. Extra scans keep an eye on the growth, and induction is ad used before due date as the placenta 'might' start to struggle after 40 weeks. It was never a huge concern to me as I was being monitored, obviously if my son was losing weight I would have been concerned, but fortunately it had no effect whatsoever 😀

polkado · 28/01/2020 14:37

I had low Papp-a (around 0.2 I think) and had extra scans and monitoring. I couldn't take aspirin but my baby was born a very healthy 10lbs! It doesn't necessarily mean there is a problem Smile

RanchoRelaxo · 28/01/2020 17:05

Oh and I was never told to take aspirin, I didn't even realise this was recommended with some trusts
I never mentioned upthread either my dd was born 6lb7oz, so not unusually small

gingerbiscuitqueen · 28/01/2020 20:24

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and have been advised to take 75mg of aspirin since 20 weeks. I've had monthly scans but luckily DS is plotting beautiful on the 50th centile- not sure I will be offered induction now because he isn't measuring small?

mouse1234567 · 30/01/2020 18:01

Had my twenty week today and at my hospital you get two growth scans for low Papp at 28 and 36 but if all looks ok they don’t induce you. I will only have induction early if there is a problem. Seems all hospitals operate a different policy.
