I found out I was pregnant on New Years Eve. My last period was 25th November. I only had sex once in December, 10th CD16 and from previous months ovulate on CD20 so I’m putting my conception date at around the 14th December.
Everything was going okay nausea, sore boobs, tiredness and peeing loads.
Then on Monday 20th I had some brownish discharge, same again Tuesday which turned into heavy bleeding and clots. I had my first midwife appointment on the 22nd so I told her about the bleeding and she got me a scan with the EPU for Thursday. I bled all day and at about 10:30pm I went to the loo and passed a palm size clump of material.
I cried and told my partner, I went to the EPU scab on Thursday and had prepared myself for the news that I have miscarried.

I had an abdominal scan and no baby, the sonographer said she needed to do an internal scan. I didn’t really see the point but went through the motions. The internal scan picked up a 6mm fetal pole (sorry don’t know if I’m saying that right) but an irregular sac. No heartbeat. Because of the measurements they have to rescan in a week. I go back Thursday.
Of course I’ve googled since getting the news. I could not believe that after everything that I had passed that anything would still be in there.
The reason I gave my dates at the top is because the sonographer said I measured just at 6 weeks.
Now my last period date puts me at 8 weeks but I know when we conceived and that puts me at 5 +5 yesterday.
Is 5wks 5 days too early for a heartbeat on an internal scan?
Has anyone else had an irregular sac and gone on to have a successful pregnancy?
I am preparing myself to go back next Thursday and be told that I have miscarried.
But I get this glimmer of hope that my dates are out and the bleeding is like so many women experience and just one of those things.

I came across an some posts where the miscarriage was one twin and the surviving twin went on to full term, would a miscarry of a twin be picked up by the sonographer this early?

I’m spending the week off work sick and resting up.

Sorry for the long post.

I had a scan at 5+5weeks and nothing was seen at all had one as 6+1 and there was a heartbeat etc so yes it does make all the difference even just 1 day xx

@kHall84 your scan at 5+5 when you say they didn’t see anything was that an internal scan? And no sac, baby nothing?

Yes internal scan and external they checked both just to be sure all they seen was free fluid and thicken of the cervix which could possibly of been a pregnancy, but then next time heartbeat and yolk save were there am now 27 weeks so stranger things have happened x

So sorry to hear your going through this OP 💐 your dates are very similar to mines so I will give you all my information to see if it helps. My last AF was the 27th November, I had sexual intercourse on the 12th of December. I got my BFP on the 27th of Dec and had an early scan on the the 3rd of January as iv had 8 previous MC, the sonographer said i was 5+5 and we saw a heartbeat and the fetal pole measured 4.1mm. Iv since had another 2 scans, one on the 13th of Jan and the measurements were 7+1 and 7.3mm then again today I had another scan and the messurements were 9w 22.9mm 💐

Racoonworld · 25/01/2020 08:44

I had an internal scan at 5.5 weeks and could see sac and yolk sac but no baby or heartbeat. Scan at 7 weeks showed baby with heartbeat. 5.5 weeks is so early and a couple of days can make a huge difference. Hope all goes well at your next scan.

Kona84 · 25/01/2020 10:06

Thanks for the responses.
I think with mine measuring 6mm without an heartbeat my chances are low but just trying to stay positive.

@Kona84 if you conceived on 14th December, how are you working out that you are 5+5? I conceived on 15th December (last period 28th Nov) and I’m 8 weeks tomorrow.... unless I’ve misunderstood?

Kona84 · 25/01/2020 11:38

I’m working it out in just weeks since conception not adding the 2 weeks.
Because I’m desperate I guess. I know the answer and I know I’m just clinging to the smallest of hopes.
So it had been 5 weeks and 5 days between ovulation and my scan on the 22nd.
I’m working it out as simple as that, I know that it’s 8wks + since my last period. I have 33 day cycles and I know I ovulate on the cd20. I don’t know how they always do it from last period when I know I wasn’t pregnant until after the 14th December

@Kona84 that means you are actually 8 weeks and not 5.5 weeks. I only know that for definite as I ovulated the day after you and I am definitely 8 weeks (confirmed with a scan yesterday). Unless your dates are wrong, and it’s possible you could have ovulated later than usual as this does happen but does mean you wouldn’t have gotten a positive pregnancy test so early.
I’ve had 3 miscarriages, I know what’s it like Sad But I’d rather people were honest with me rather than getting my hopes up. It doesn’t sound good OP.

A scan confirmed a miscarriage today

Sorry to hear that @Kona84. I’ve been there, it’s tough. Be kind to yourself Flowers
