Vegan cod liver oil?

I know no fish oils but have come across some vegan omega 3 oil capsules.
Anyone know if they're ok? I usually take a daily fish oil and I'm definitely feeling a bit stiff and creaky without them!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

They’re fine, just made from linseed instead of fish and I’m pretty sure I read that fish get the omegas from plants in the first place so you’re cutting out the middle fish as it were.

Alpacathebag · 20/01/2020 18:38

Sorry just googled, it’s flax seed not linseed

I take Pregnacare omega 3 capsules (they come in a pack along with the spectate multivitamins). Are these not suitable for you ? (They are not vegetarian).

Catlover10 · 20/01/2020 19:23

Separate multivitamins*

Thank you for your replies!

They sound good @Catlover10, yes they'd have been fine but I already have 5 months supply of regular pregnacare so looking for something to take on top of those.

Together vitamins does one that doesn't involve fish. It's from algae I think.

Sorry just realised you asked if they were ok to take, not for recommendations. This is my second pregnancy taking them. All seems fine.

the original research papers that demonstrated that omega oils were good for brain and joint development and maintenance actually used these seed based sources because they have a more consistent quality for scientific purposes. once the benefits of omega oils were established, marketing forces rolled into action because the fishing industry has a huge mountain of fish guts which they either need to process into a product that can be sold at a profit or thrown away.

so no need to worry that you aren't getting the "real thing" from vegan sources.

Thanks @ncqtime

@Alpacathebag thanks, maybe I'll stick to the vegan ones long term- fish guts 😷
