Early scan put me back from 6 weeks to 5 weeks - panicking! 😟

Good evening everyone.
Looking for some advice/own similar stories please.
I had a missed miscarriage (blighted ovum) four months ago, so am very anxious about this current pregnancy.
I went for an early scan this week when I thought I was 6 weeks 3 days (from the last date of my period). Via an internal scan, I was told a gestational sac and a yolk sac was visible, which was measuring 5 weeks 2 days.
I am so confused as I had a positive ovulation test mid cycle (day 14) and then a few days later I went on holiday for a week without my husband, so can’t feel it’s possible that my dates are wrong?
Panicking that i am experiencing a missed miscarriage. I keep doing clear blue tests which have been stuck at 2-3 weeks for the past 9 days.
I have been advised to go for a re-scan in 2 weeks. Agonising wait!!!
Any response gratefully received.
Thank you so much x

Why are you panicking?

Your dating scan is based on size of the foetus and they are very reluctant to change it so this will now become your due date.

Congratulations.

I had a scan that put me back a week too and I was 100% certain on my dates but must have ovulated later! I thought I was 6 but scan said I was less than six weeks. I wasn’t offered a rescan so went private at 8 weeks. Said baby is now three weeks old and everything was perfect. Good luck and don’t google too much as it’ll make you paranoid!

I wouldn't worry as I think they can be a week out this early anyway :)

mummylou10 · 02/01/2020 22:33

Thank you for taking the time to reply, and for your positivity. I need some of that!
I think because of my previous missed miscarriage, I am just a bit more paranoid than is normal. I was worried that a whole week at this stage was quite a big difference, especially as I was convinced my dates were pretty accurate. I know it sounds morbid, I just have a fear they will say that the pregnancy stopped developing at 5 weeks and that’s why I was measuring that at the scan.
As you’ve all said, I’m sure there is hope Smile. Just have to try to keep myself busy the next two weeks! Thank you x

I had early scans with both my DS2 and D because of a history of 3+ miscarriages. Both of them were dated almost 2 weeks behind my dates. They said it's really common because they're measuring somethings sooooo small that it's hard to get an accurate measurement... that's why they do your dating scan around 12 weeks and take your EDD from that.

Obviously we can can't say for sure the size being wrong doesn't mean something is wrong but in my experience DS2 caught up exactly with my original dates. I had a scan for bleeding and then expected me to be around 10 weeks going off my early scan and turns out I was closer to 13 weeks (my dates) so they got in a flap and did my 12 week scan there and then before they miss the window

DD was dated almost 2 weeks later than my dates and by 12 week scan she was only 4 days behind what I expected ... all my later growth scans she was bang on my dates.

Have you factored in time for implantation?
It can take up to 4 or 5 days for the egg to implant

mumxthr33 · 02/01/2020 23:29

This happened to me. When I went back for my scan at what should of been 12 weeks according to the early scans baby had caught up and was measuring 13 weeks so back consistent with period dates.

Early scans are more trouble than they're worth, IMO. The amount of anxiety we see on here about six week scans measuring behind/not seeing heartbeats etc is ridiculous. The embryo is fine the vast majority of the time. Do try not to worry x

I had an early scan at EPU, I thought I was 6 weeks, they said 5 weeks 5 days. When it came to the 12 week scan (and I should have been 11+4 according to early scan), they changed due date and put me at 12+3. They said 12 week scan was most accurate, so basically I suddenly became nearly a week more pregnant. I took from this that very early scans can be a bit out. Fingers crossed for you!

I had an early scan at 7+3 due to bleeding and was measuring 6+1. By 12 weeks the measurements had caught up a few days but not the full 9 days. I'm 34 weeks now. Hopefully the next 2 weeks will go quickly for you OP and all is well.

I had fertility treatment and knew the exact day of conception/ovulation but still got back dated at an early 6 week scan. Like you, I was really worried and thought this meant baby wasn't growing properly.
Baby had caught up and actually was even further ahead by 12 weeks so try not to worry. Congratulations!

KatieCar · 08/12/2020 07:13

mummylou10 what was your outcome? I’m going through the exact same with the exact dates!

Gemmaemilyx · 08/12/2020 07:35

On my 12 week scan I was put back from 31st July to the 10th august. I had him on the 12th august. Must mean I conceived a couple days before my period was due. All was well but I was annoyed at the time as I thought I was further along than I was!! X

Fairywings123 · 08/12/2020 08:17

When i went for my first scan i was ment to be 11+4 going off date of last period by midwife, but actually messured 8+6, was told this was normal as could of fell a little later, then had a private scan at 12 weeks as was worried sick and was put farward 3 days, so now due 16th of june not the 19th, try not worry x
