So I've just taken a pregnancy test and it's showing as pregnant (3+ weeks). I've been having the symptoms of pregnancy but seeing it in black and white on the stick - I'm super excited but also terrified!! I came off the pill in October, and hadn't had a period since.

It sounds so silly but what happens now?! Do I go and see my normal doctor? I'm in Scotland so don't think we get first scan til about 12 weeks.

Just looking for some support.

Congratulations!!!!

The first thing I did was order pregnancy vitamins 😂 then the next day (it was a bank holiday when we found out) I went to the doctors and asked to make an appointment with the midwife. I had downloaded an app and had a roundabout idea of dates, my period put me about 4 weeks ahead of where I knew I was based on when we'd had sex, so I was able to tell the receptionist my dates based on period as that's what they use to date you until the scan and I made an appointment for about 9 weeks I think, normally your booking appointment with midwife is 8-10 weeks I believe, then at that appointment they'll take all your info, medical history etc and refer you to a hospital, a few days or weeks later depending on your dates you'll get a letter through for your scan :)

I did go for a private scan at 6 weeks +6 as I was verrrrry anxious

congrats!Grin

I am 8 weeks pregnant so this is all new to me too too (first baby)
The first thing I done was go to the doctors so they could give me all the advice etc I need and show me how to do the self referral for the antenatal clinic.
Me and my partner booked an early 6 week scan just to confirm everything as I was feeling really anxious.
Soon after you self refer to the antenatal they will start sending you letters with your appointments for 12 week scans etc

Hope this helps
X

Oh & don't forget to get your pregnancy vitamins 😊
I downloaded the pregnancy+ app which is brilliant and goes through week by week of what the baby looks like, size etc and also has lots of good advice on there x

Congrats OP lovely news. As PP have said, you need to know your dates then give GP a ring for referral. You will be booked in for around 8-10 weeks for booking in where they will explain the time line for your pregnancy. I didn't have a private scan I just waited for the 12 week one but of course it is an option if you are especially anxious. Otherwise, just try to enjoy it, its a magical process - -vomiting etc aside!- -

I recommend the ovia app BTW. I like seeing how big baby is and their hands etc (taken with a pinch of salt)

Thanks everyone for your messages! I've called my doctors surgery and managed to get an appt with the midwife on 16th January, this is their next available slot. I know I could be up to 9 weeks pregnant given the dates of my last bleed / coming off pill etc. It all feels so surreal!!!

I've managed to get a private scan for 3:20 today. I will let you all know how it goes... peace of mind and all!

That sounds great OP. At least you might know if you're really far in your pregnancy or not.

Hope all goes well!

So I'm 10 weeks 1 day!! Can't believe it. The scan was so much clearer than I was expecting! Got to hear a heartbeat and all is good. Now my problem is, how to get away with friends not noticing I'm not drinking tonight at an NYE party 😂

That's amazing!! Congrats again. Just day you're feeling under the weather or pack yourself a bag of alcohol free drinks and hope nobody notices!
