Have been hovering but this is my first message for a while, on fri night i was taken to hospital because i was having severe chest pains, the doctors think that i have got a blood clot on my right lung, they took some blood tests which would suggest that i have because they are high but apparently pregnancy can cause this to be high, they also detected a small ammount of infection in my body but sent me home the next morning with nothing more than paraceptamol, they would usually give an xray if they suspected a blood clot but obv they cant because im pregnant, my chest is tight and painful and i keep getting (almost constantly) a fluttery heart with leaves me breathless, has anybody else experianced this? and if so what happened? i went to bed last night worried that i wasnt going to wake up - i hope somebody can help

How are you Mum2bx?

They can test for a PE using a blood test called a d-dimer. If the result is out of range it suggests a clot somewhere, but like you say, can be high due to pg.

Hope you've gone back for a second opinion. I've had a PE and it was diagnosed using the d-dimer test and a CT scan.

Pain in chest was agony. Had the same pain when I had pnuemonia though. Hope you're ok.

hi mum2bx hope u are ok.after having my 3rd child i had blood clots in my leg i got the day after i had a c cection.the doc told me i got the blood clot due to the c section i had.i woke up that day with very sharp pains in my left leg so bad i wanted ta cry my legs were really swollen as well so i had an ultrasound on my leg which confirmed i had dvt [deep vein thromboises] i was put on warfrin injections which is a blood thinner 4 one week then had 2 take blood thinning tablets 4 about 9mths.thank god it went away after 9mths.i was also warned that this is very serious the clots can go straight 2 ur brain or heart which wont be good.the docs take clots very serious if they thought 4 one minute u had a clot in ur lungs they would treat it staight away no matter what, especally hospitals they see people everyday with clots they see what it can do if left untreated.so dont worry if ur really worried go see another doc but im sure its ok,also worry can make u have chest pain and crazy heart beat.hope iv helped in sum way.

If they seriously thought you had a blood clot they would of kept you in a pulmonary embolism is a medical emergency and extremely dangerous.
A d-dimer is raised in pg but also can be raised due to trauma and infection.
Usually a pe comes from a clot elsewhere usually the legs, if you had no symptoms of this and you have tested positive for an infection they are probably sure that this is the problem and not a pe so try not to worry.
There are also other signs of a pe eg, changes to your ecg and blood gases, again if these were tested then the doctors would of been reassured when making their diagnosis.
