Weird symptoms in the first trimester

I know about the common symptoms like morning sickness, bloating, going to the toilet more often, increased sense of smell, sore boobs etc, but has anyone had any more unusual symptoms in early pregnancy?

As well as all the above, I'm also currently experiencing itching (particularly my hands), dry skin, constant neck pain, loose stools, leg cramps at night and painful spots on my neck.

I feel like my body is not my own and the more I research on Google, the more I'm convincing myself that something is seriously wrong! Can anyone help reassure me?

Hi, I did have leg cramps but none of the other symptoms. I’d give the midwife a call if you’re really worried. I’m sure everything is fine though.

mrsed1987 · 21/12/2019 21:54

I had leg cramps and loose stool but not until 3rd trimester

essexanon · 21/12/2019 21:56

Yes me, I have loose stools and the bumps on the back of my neck that are painful.

My skin and hair is also soo oily I could literally use it to cook Xmas dinner. 🤣

When is this ‘glow’ meant to kick in lol. Xx

I can't wear contact lenses and have had to take all my piercings out because they became red and sore despite having had them for about 15 years. This is my second pregnancy and same thing happened the first time too.

Boymummy3 · 21/12/2019 21:58

My hands went really dry/flaky etc early pregnancy and have done the same now in late pregnancy this is my 3rd and it's never happened before I didn't know I was pregnant when it first started happening I thought it was my washing up liquid that was doing it even though it never had before... Realised when it came back again that its just a flare up as your skin is more sensitive during pregnancy. X

KellyHall · 21/12/2019 22:00

I had such bad acne, my back looked like a pizza and was so painful and itchy. I had loose stools at best for my entire pregnancy.

I'm all for calling the midwife though, that's what they're for!

ginandgingers92 · 21/12/2019 22:01

Itching and sensitive skin is common in pregnancy! But mention it to your midwife/GP, as some itching can indicative a liver issue I believe (pregnancy related and will go when baby is born)x

jdy123 · 21/12/2019 22:03

Yes to the loose stools Sad I was expecting constipation but nope. Think i prefer the loose however!

Annafs · 21/12/2019 23:20

My hands are really dry, cuticles are peeling too which is a bit gross. Weeing non-stop, lots of nausea and sore boobs. My hair is also really greasy but not falling out as much as usual in the shower. For as long as I can remember I’ve always had chronic constipation so really dreading having it worse than normalSad hopefully I get the loose stools instead haha

Blizy · 21/12/2019 23:26

Nasal drip!

Jomum2020 · 22/12/2019 07:09

I’m 5 weeks and I have the painful spots on my neck/jawline. Had this with my DS too and after he was born. defo hormone related!
I’d speak to your mw or doctor though if you are worried. They can put your mind at rest x

CoffeeAndCarbs · 22/12/2019 08:37

I'm 14+5 now and still have loose stools, itching (mainly back, chest, shins (very dry skin) and forearms. I also wake with a blocked, bloody nose at least twice a week. I'm still suffering from nausea, lack of energy and intermittent insomnia too. So much for the 'honeymoon period' of the second trimester. I'm still waiting for it to kick in x

KLNM89 · 22/12/2019 17:58

So many dreams! I would very rarely dream at all and I now have the most vivid dreams every night and as I wake a few times a night, this means multiple vivid dreams.... lewis capaldi singing east 17 stay another day outside my local pub was one from last night 😂

jdy123 · 22/12/2019 19:18

@KLNM89 I've just started to notice this !! I wake up like wtf were those dreams, so vivid like I was watching a film!

CaramelCrunch · 22/12/2019 19:23

Awful trapped wind with DD1. So bad I went to the GP and ended up having an early scan in case the pregnancy was ectopic. Nope, just horrendous wind. Also really painful breasts both pregnancies whenever I felt cold.

Cherry85 · 22/12/2019 20:26

Loose stool is a nice way to put it 🤣🙈 I bought the andrex wipes and put them in each bathroom and a pack in my handbag. They may seem excessive now but when you get piles later on they are a life saver!

Also had acid reflux really bad at the start but found that love heart sweets worked better than rennies and they are much cheaper too!

Good luck and 'enjoy' 🤣

MrsBudd · 22/12/2019 20:32

Burping here, both times I've been pregnant. It's not nice!
Definitely worth mentioning itching hands to your midwife ASAP, as a PP said can indicate obstetric cholestasis/ICP.
Hope you start feeling better soon!

mummycubs · 22/12/2019 20:34

I got cravings so early on for all six of my kids... they were for the most random of things and my sister (being the only one that could drive at the time) would get calls constantly in the night to bring me them so I would stop winding my ex up and he could sleep before work! I think the worst one was blackcurrant jam on toast with cheese and tomato sauce Confused. I'd be sick if I had to eat that now and it knocks my stomach to even be writing this.
I also found that I got very sweaty and disgusting so easy. I was pregnant during winter for DD1 so it wasn't a problem, but my twins I was pregnant in the height of summer, and I was heavily pregnant with my triplets in the height of summer too. I had to carry around wet wipes, deodorant and then perfume in case I couldn't find a private place to sort myself down Blush

Umberta · 22/12/2019 20:37

Yes to the loose stools... it's been so unending that I was about to start a thread about it myself...! I guess I'm lucky so far not to have vomited but I'm obviously not digesting very well cos my food just reappears quite soon 😭 sorry tmi

Umberta · 22/12/2019 20:39

Ps I also had the most horrendous trapped wind a couple if nights ago... and also lots of ahem non-trapped wind. Feeling so unattractive 😵

Umberta · 22/12/2019 20:43

Ps ps I had really bad dry skin and lips a week ago then I read it might be a vitamin B deficiency so I'm taking vitamin B complex and it's got so much better, might be worth a try! Also I read it helps the nausea, might be true as mine hasn't been so bad. Still haven't read how to fix the other problems tho...

Maggie272 · 22/12/2019 21:31

@mummycubs triplets run in my family too! My mother's aunt and my aunt had triplets : )

Does anyone get the chills, or get really cold? I'm very early and it's my first xxx

mummycubs · 22/12/2019 21:47

@Maggie272 twins run in my exes family but no triplets ever in either families as far back as anyone can remember, so we were all a little bit shocked! I didn't actually find out I was pregnant with them until this July at six months along, and they were born at eight months in September! Was definitely a bit of a shock adding another three to the brood. I'm ridiculously outnumbered now with 6-1 but it's going to be amazing watching them form the bonds I have with my five siblings!

Good luck with yours, babies truly are a blessing!xx

Umberta · 22/12/2019 21:48

I'm the opposite, getting so hot in bed, really unusual for me, having to wear fewer pyjamas than usual. It's giving me insomnia sometimes 😵

blackpinkinyourarea · 22/12/2019 22:34

I've not had it so bad the last few days, but post-nasal drip! And my hands are dry despite moisturising 14053 times a day, but that could also be because its winter..
