Pregnancy and perimenopause

I'm 47 year old, 3 months pregnant with third child - a big surprise but not a bad way Smile
Before I got pregnant I assumed I was approaching menopause because of my age and many symptoms I was having : irregular periods, hot flushes, tiredness, bad pmt etc.

I have two questions: on the basis I am peri menopausal- how will pregnancy / bf effect my menopause - does it delay it indefinitely as long as I'm pregnant or breastfeeding? Or is it possible breastfeeding / pregnancy will mask the hormone drop when it does occur allowing me potentially to emerge in several years time having gone through the change without knowing?

Also it seems so strange to me that I can go from dwindling hormones to full on pregnancy hormones - it makes me question why the menopause needs to occur so relatively early in life - am I correct in thinking it's only dwindling egg supply that causes menopause not our bodies? It feels a bit unfair that we don't get to keep our hormones for longer but stop producing eggs if you ask me!

Releasing eggs I mean - I realise we have all the eggs we'll ever have at birth .., it just seems mean that we can't have a 10
Year grace period where we can't get pregnant but we keep making all the hormones! Am I being greedy!
