Has anyone given birth at Scunthorpe General?

I'm currently living in Hull, I'm due on the 22nd March but we are moving to a new house in Scunthorpe (I'm hoping by the end of Jan at the very latest as I want to start nesting but we're in a chain)
Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone could share their experience giving birth at Scunthorpe labour ward.. I'm curious as to how it compares to the Hull Royal labour ward which has recently been refurbished and looks so nice! I'm hoping for a water birth (I'm also ready for that not to go to plan) but I think Scunthorpe only has one birthing pool, so if that's in use when I go in, that's that out of the window! 😂

Thank you in advance!
X

Hi, I've given birth at scunthorpe... although the last time was 11 years ago now!

It's not too bad but you are right there is only one birthing pool- so if someone's in there your out of luck.

Grimsby has a nice maternity suite where you get a private room to stay in labour till you leave and dp can stay in with you the whole time too.

Never been to hull so can't compare but I'd imagine it's better then scunthorpe as it's been renovated, I don't think scunthorpe has been updated for quite some time.

Good luck with the move x

@Flossylou I will certainly check out the Grimsby hospital, just wondering what's the furthest distance I can be from the hospital when I eventually go into labour.. 🤔
I know I'd be really put out if I got to the hospital ready for a water birth and it was already taken 🙁
Also want to know that OH can stay with me throughout as I know he wont want to leave my side. X

Your partner can definitely stay with you when your in "active labour" but if you need to stay in after the birth you go into a ward with 5 other people. Grimsby has single rooms and oh can stay with you on a pop up bed until you are discharged.

I'm pretty sure that you can decide on any hospital to give birth, but the drive to Hull from Scunthorpe does take a while- not sure I'd fancy it in labour.

If you're really set on a water birth though maybe plan on a birth in a hospital better equipped to start with and if you need to get there quick you can always just go SGH.

Most hospitals do a tour of the labour wards for expectant mums. Maybe have a look around x

@Flossylou Thank you so much for the advice. We should be in our new house in Scunthorpe by Feb at the latest, I'm hoping we complete in Jan so I can get the house sorted whilst I'm still mobile. I'm due 22nd of March.
Don't want to sound prudish but can't imagine being on a ward with other women when I've just had my baby. I have envisaged it just being me and my partner after the birth and then getting ourselves straight home (all being well)
Will definitely look into Grimsby. I'll need to ring the local midwives once where settled in the new house anyway as I'll have to transfer my care. Thank you again for shedding some light on it for me 😊 x
