Pink discharge after bowel movement

I'm 7 weeks pregnant. From 4 weeks on I've had cramps (strong enough to wake me up) and brown and pink discharge after BM. The cramps seem to have died down alot now but yesterday still had some pink discharge. I've booked myself in for a private early scan next week but could do with some reassuring! Has this happened to anyone before? Also I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome.

Hi OP,

Not sure about Danlos syndrome but i dont think pink/brown discharge after a bowl movement is anything to be concerned about. I had it from the second trimester and went to the antenatal clinic to get checked out - the Dr did a speculum exam and said i had cervical ectropian (sometimes called cervical errosion, but dont worry its not actually a diagnosis of your cervix erroding!) which means the cervix can be very easilly irritated and you might get spotting throughout the pregnancy after things like bowel movements, sex, thrush etc. He was right, I did get spotting throughout and am now almost 39 weeks with an apparently healthy pregnancy.

Worth mentioning to your midwife at your booking in appointment, but my understanding is even if you dont have cervical ectropian a bowl movement can still cause spotting and isnt necessarily indicative of anything serious.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
