Hi,
I had my dating scan today and I calculate I should be 9 weeks 5 days (since the 1st day of my last period).
When they done the scan they said that i was measuring at 5 week and 4 days.
I know I haven't got my dates wrong.
I've had some light spotting today and yesterday just no major bleeding.

I had a blood test today and have to go back to have another one in 48 hours so they can test my HCG levels.

I hate the wait already and I just want to know if I've had a missed miscarriage :(

In other people's experience how long did it take to naturally have a miscarriage from the date the fetus stopped growing. Obviously if this is the case in my situation then it would have stopped growing 4 weeks ago. Would it really take that long to pass?
I want to hope all is okay but I just can't see any positives ? Can anyone help?

@Nuggetlover27 I'm very sorry it does sound like you've had a missed miscarriage. I never miscarried naturally and so had an erpc 4 weeks after the heart stopped beating.

You could be in one of two situations ...

One- You ovulated later on so infact are not as far on as you thought.. from my lmp i was 14 weeks as i had missed several periods (i knew i wasnt that far along though as i was testing in the first few missed periods).. at my dating scan i was only 9 weeks im now 29weeks.

Two - you have had a mmc if this is the case im very sorry to hear this and if course your blood work will confirm either.

Ive had a mmc at 6 weeks in a previous pregnancy but was bleeding & in pain so it happened very quickly had to have blood tests done over a week to check levels was coming down. X

I had a missed miscarriage the first time - baby stopped growing around 6/7 weeks but it took until 11 weeks to start spotting and then I miscarried naturally fully the day of my 12 week scan

When they carried out the scan, was anything said about whether it looked normal? If it's a missed miscarriage, I wonder if they'd be able to identify something on the scan?

@LifeIsAnArt they didn't say anything except ask me if I was sure that I had my dates right (which I said yes) and then she said I can't tell you if it's viable unless I can see a clear picture of the fetus and hear a heart beat which I can't :/

@LifeIsAnArt yeah they said they will know after 2 tests 48 hours apart. The wait is killing me though. Feel like a pin cushion at the moment. They couldn't find my vein yesterday so I currently have 2 bruised arms and a bruised hand too Sad and only more needles tomorrow 😭 give me strength Sad

I’m in the same boat! I had a scan on Monday I should have been 7+3 however they measured the sac at under 5 weeks! My dates aren’t wrong... my next scan is 28th November to confirm what’s going on! I’ve been spotting for a week too, brown but it turned red after the internal scan on Monday!

@thirteen92 thank you for replying. Sorry to hear you're going though the same as me.
Did they not offer you a blood test to check your hcg levels? I was told that that would tell them if I'd had a missed miscarriage or if my dates were wrong.

I know I shouldn't, but I've been doing some reading and thinking perhaps maybe I had a longer cycle and that's why my dates don't match? Because I ovulated later than the usual 14 days after my LMP?

Anyone know if when they say at the dating scan that your "measuring 5 and a half weeks" do they mean since ovulation or have they already "added on" the additional 2 weeks to the supposed lmp ?

The measurements of the sack/fetus will be 5half weeks. Its only Midwives who go from your lmp untill your dating scan thats when they get propper measurments x

I'm sorry to hear this op. I had a similar situation in July. I thought I was 7 weeks but baby measured 5.5. There was a heartbeat but was slow, she said it could of only just started beating and they start slow. I knew I was further along though. I went back a week later and heart was even slower. I hope it's good news for you. I think they do add the 2 weeks on xx

Unfortunately I think the worst has happened
My bloods results showed my hormone levels had dropped from around 6000 to 4000 and I've had bad cramps and bleeding since Thursday evening so I think all this confirms it's a miscarriage unfortunately
I have another scan Tuesday to confirm
It's all so scary and upsetting. My 1st pregnancy has been so hard and unsuccessful
