How do I know if I’m pregnant after miscarriage?

Hi everyone,

I had a miscarriage on the 2nd of October at 6 weeks and was obviously devastated...I am feeling better now but have been left a little confused and was looking for some advice.

It’s been 4 weeks now and I haven’t had a period although my breasts are sore, I’ve been feeling bloated, fatigued and have been getting minor cramps.

Usually I know when I’m going to come on my period but I don’t feel like I am, could I be pregnant again this quick?
I took a test this morning and it was negative...at what point should I take another test ?

Any advice would be greatly welcomed :)

When i has a miscarriage years ago the doc recommended waiting at least one cycle to start trying trying again. Another doc said to wait 6 months. Maybe give your body a bit more time to recover before the trying again?

Sorry meant to add.it did Take a few months for my body to get back to a regular cycle after.

So sorry to hear about your miscarriage. I would get some cheapies and test once a week until cycle regulates (hopefully it doesn't need to!)

Sorry for your loss @Honeymoon21. I had a similar experience last month. I had a mmc in September and about 4 and a half weeks later my boobs were really sore and I was getting cramps, both felt quite different to how I normally feel when due on. Pg test was negative and I was baffled for a few days but then af finally arrived. Miscarriage can do strange things to our bodies. Hope you get an answer soon as the waiting is hard.

After my first MC, my usual AF symptoms were massively more noticeable for the next 3/4 cycles. Convinced myself I was pregnant each time when in fact that was my new PMS normal.

Period returned around 5 weeks after each MC.

I’d test once a week until AF arrives just in case. It is possible to become pregnant straight away if you’ve had sex.

Sorry for your loss though, OP xx

I had a miscarriage after getting oregnancy symptoms and then had Sam esynotins, waking in middle of the night, sore boobs etc. I tested two days after symptoms started and was pregnant. Now I'm 20 weeks.

Rubyroost · 04/11/2019 19:08

Should say symptoms. I was certain i was pregnant btw by the symptoms!

Did you test after miscarriage to make sure you had a negative test?

aggitatedstate · 06/11/2019 13:43

As PP said you need to test a negative after mc as sadly your body hangs on to hcg for a while after a mc

Rubyroost · 06/11/2019 13:45

I find the cheapy test strips are normally less sensitive than the plastic tests you buy from supermarkets.

So it could be 1. If you didn't test after miscarriage, you had a but of hcg left picked up by the strips, but now the hcg has returned to normal.

  1. The strips could actually be more sensitive than the tests you bought, so wait another couple of days and test again.
  2. You were pregnant, but now are not and your period will be along soon. Early miscarriages can be referred to as chemical pregnancies, many people don't realise they have them, but testing early unfortunately means you are aware you've miscarried.
Marmite83 · 06/11/2019 13:48

What type of test did you take on Monday @Honeymoon21? If that one was negative I'd suggest taking the same one to check if the result has changed. All tests have different sensitivities. It may be that the strips are more sensitive than the Tesco and Clearblue ones. Or it could be a CP. Either way all you can do unfortunately is take another test in a couple of days to see if there's a line and if it gets any stronger

Honeymoon21 · 06/11/2019 14:17

So I didn’t test myself but when I was at the hospital 5 weeks ago when I had the miscarriage they tested and said it came back negative, so presumably that’s my answer.

I will go back to Tesco today after work and get some more of those strip tests, just hoping and praying that I am pregnant ..

Shall I wait a few more days before testing or
