5 weeks pregnant with cyst

Hi,
I am 5 weeks pregnant (first time) and have experienced miscarriage in my last pregnancy. I have been experiencing pain on my right side pubic bone area and hip, cramping in my legs.

With an emergency scan they said that I have corpus luteum (ovarian cyst). Next day I woke up to have sudden extremely sharp pains in my abdominal area not able to walk, Stand nor move. It has calmed down after an hour left with discomfort. Anyone know if this extremely sharp pain is normal to experience with a cyst or could it be a sign of something else.
I have had no bleeding by the way.

Thanks

Corpus luteum cysts are totally normal in pregnancy. Is the pain the same side as cyst? I had quite bad left hand sided pain up until about 8/9 weeks. I had an early scan due to pain. It's now gone. Sonographer said it wouldn't be the cyst, but then I had another scan and the sonographer said it is possible that they can cause pain. If it's quite big this is more likely, any idea of size.

Anyway my pain was a mystery, if it wasn't the cyst.. God knows what it was. I'm now 13 weeks. My cyst was fairly small by the way.

I've got a cyst on the right side but I haven't noticed any pain from it. I have had lots of left side pains and pulling feelings as I have endometriosis on that side. I think it's normal for some of us to have a bit more that the 'mild' pain they say is normal but if you're still worried give your gp or midwife another call - they won't mind xx

I’m soo glad to know this is normal. Mine is a small cyst but the extremely sharp pain this morning got me worried, feeling better now but constant aches now. I do hope mine goes away. Thanks for your replies Rubyroot and Janey15. x

Pregnancy would be impossible without a corpus luteum. It's the remnant of the follicle the egg came from and supplies progesterone for the first 8-10 weeks, until the placenta takes over.

It's not unusual to have some pain n/cramping/discomfort in early pregnancy. But the level you're described by doesn't seem normal. I'd be heading back to the epu!

It’s worrying to know it’s not what’s causing me this much pain. My right side is very tender and I get aches which is because of the cyst but I will keep an eye on the sharp pain- doesn’t seem normal

@Ras1001 I guess with the pain you are best off having anotger scan soon. Are epu looking after you. I had several scans early because of my pain. At 4 weeks, nearly 5 weeks and then 6 weeks. All was okay. I've got 12 week scan coming up so I'm nervous hsly crossing my fingers

Ras1001 · 14/09/2019 10:48

@rubyroot 12 weeks scan is exciting aswel as nerve wracking. My first pregnancy I miscarried 2 days after my first scan but I had problems from the start and I was bleeding everyday so I knew something was wrong. You’ve been getting regular scans so sounds good everything should go well fingers crossed. They booked me a scan 3 weeks later and again 3 weeks after that to keep eye on the baby so hoping this pregnancy progresses. What date are you due?

Hi.

I am 20 weeks pregnant. I had bleeding and sharp pain at 6 weeks. I went for a emergency early scan. They saw a cyst on the left side. I kept having them but they said it should be fine. I then had my 12 week scan and the cyst had now attached to the umbilical cord. Which was scary. They said not to worry as it normally goes before 20 week scan. I had my 20 week scan this week and it's gone. I mean they can't say it's gone. But they can't see it in 2 scans I've had. So I'm sure it has and i am no longer feeling sharp pains. So it can always go. Stay positive! X

Did they rule out ectopic?

rubyroot · 14/09/2019 11:46

Thanks @Ras1001 I had a very positive scan at just over ten weeks. But I had a scan at 13 weeks this time last year where there was fluid all round baby and ended in termination, so despite positive 10 week scan I can't get this out of my head. Fingers crossed.

That's great they're giving you regular scans, it may be worth updating them about the pains. I have to say my pain was quite worrying, but didn't stop me walking. Was worse by the end of the day if I'd been on my feet or whatever.
