Hello,

the first day of my last period was 28th July 2019. My cycle is 30 days normally.

We had we did the business unprotected on 17th August and I was due on 27th August. It is now 6th September with no show.

I have taken 7 pregnancy tests, one this morning and they are all negative! although i have slightly tender breasts and had heightened sense of smell only one day though.

So confused!! please help!

If the tests are all negative then it doesn't look that likely. What brand are the tests? Have you tried a first response? Having said that I'd expect any brand to pick up a pregnancy at this stage. Did you test before today? Could it be that you were pregnant but it's not been viable sadly?

crazymuseummumtobe · 06/09/2019 13:23

If all the tests you've done are negative, it's very likely that you're not pregnant. You may have ovulated later than normal, which would cause a longer cycle.

Gha123 · 06/09/2019 14:37

i took them all on different days and today only one. they were the stores own brand ones. i'm not sure, maybe i should contact my GP to discuss it and see what they say, thank you for responding

If you contact your GP to say "I'm a week late and I've done 7 tests that are all late" they'll tell you to stop wasting their time.

If you've had tender boobs for a day you're probably due on.

Gha123 · 06/09/2019 15:21

Thank you for your very straight to the point response there. Very insensitive to my situation. I have had tender breasts for over 1 week and I had heightened sense of smell for one day but that was 3 days ago, and also been suffering with severe heartburn for about a week. Perhaps I should have been more clear. It is not usual for me to miss a period hence me being here concerned and considering we had unprotected sex I think it's fair to be. I wont waste my GP's time then. Thanks again, @AmIThough

I would try and first response test if it doesn't arrive in the morning.

May2311 · 06/09/2019 16:24

@Gha123 hey! I have just got my BFP after being 12 days late.. I was due on 23rd Aug but AF didn’t turn up. Did a test that day and it was negative. I thought that meant I was out for this month but after being 12 days late I tested the other morning with the plan of going to the docs and they would ask when I last did a test and was in total shock that it was positive. I am never ever late. But for some crazy reason I must have ovulated late this month or my HCG levels just took time building up! Just thought it might help sharing my story. Perhaps leave it another week a then try again. Xx

May2311 · 06/09/2019 16:29

@Gha123 P.S if your really worried as you are usually regular give your G.P a ring. They are there to reassure and if there is something not right they will need to look into it! Hope you get sorted. Xx

Gha123 · 06/09/2019 16:51

Thank you all for responding. I had a huge wave of emotion just hit me and had a little cry about it but have decided what will be will be. I’ve ordered a first response test online so that I’m not tempted to do it straight away (should arrive next week) and if I still don’t have a period by then I will take it and hope for the best! Congratulations to you @May2311 sounds like there is a slither of hope for me still!

How have you taken the 7 tests? One a day? Absolutely no change?

Gha123 · 06/09/2019 20:33

@thetwinkles I took one a day and all negative but I have had some weird symptoms that I have never had before, missed period, bad heartburn, tender breasts, absolutely knackered by 3pm but still negative tests so 🤷🏽‍♀️

OP posts:
thetwinkles · 06/09/2019 23:03

That is rather weird if you've tested every day. Even a cheap test would show something being as late as you are. I had a few positives then went back to negative when I had a chemical pregnancy, bleeding followed a few days after the negative.

Perhaps give it until Monday and then make ago appointment they may give you a blood test and you'll know for sure that way xx

Thumper13 · 08/09/2019 07:53

I got a positive yesterday on Tesco tests and dipping strips as was 4 days late, I took a clear blue early test on day i was due as symptoms were all there and it was negative. So just keep trying for next few days x

welshweasel · 08/09/2019 07:57

You’re not pregnant. If you were, even the most insensitive test would be strongly positive by now. You don’t need a blood test. Stress will delay your period further. I’m sure it will arrive soon and I hope you have better luck next month.

Gha123 · 09/09/2019 08:57

Hi all, thought I'd send an update.. So no period yet still. Breast pain has got even worse and I've been really nauseous for the last 2 days. I am now back to thinking I am pregnant and will be doing a first response test this week. I guess everyone's body is different and hormone levels may be different in others. It works out that would only be 5 weeks and 6 days if I am and that means it is still only early days! Thanks for your help, I'll let you know how the test goes this week!

Why not try a clear blue digital so you can see the words rather than having to see whether you can see a line? I can never see faint lines on the pictures people post so I've always got clear blue digital so it will either come up saying pregnant or not pregnant

ForeverBabe · 09/09/2019 09:37

You know alot of these tests dont actually test positive until you are about 5 weeks pregnant eventhough they advertise as being accurate. Iv tested many times (atleast 10 times each) before i found out i was pregnant both times. Think about it, pray, medidate etc. Clear your mind and think of what you would do if you find out that you are pregnant. Depending on how you feel, you can start taking folic acid while you wait to test again in a week. If the suspense is really killing you, could go to a GP, tell him you a have feeling/intutition and he should order a blood test. Thats the only sure way to find out. Also you are not wasting a GPs time. This is his job and finds joy in his work of looking after patients.

ForeverBabe · 09/09/2019 09:41

Also I am not sure what experience others have had. But Obstreticians and GPs do take people seriously when they say that they have a feeling they are pregnant, or if they say they feel like something isn’t right in the pregnancy.

TokenGinger · 09/09/2019 09:44

Hi OP, last year, I had my last period on 17th August and didn't get a positive pregnancy test until 30th September. I was getting negative results on £ shop tests. I finally got a positive on a Clear Blue Digital. Even after that, I still got negative tests on other brands.

I was two weeks late for my period before I got my positive test.

DuvetCaterpillar · 09/09/2019 09:53

Hi OP. My period was 13 days late before I got even the faintest BFP line, so late ovulation is definitely a thing, and it can happen. However, stress can also delay a period, so worrying about it constantly is going to muddy the waters.

My advice is step away from all tests, and spend the next week trying to chill out as much as possible - eat well, yoga, walk, meditation, gentle exercise, whatever. It'll do you good whether you're pregnant or not. Pick a date a week from now when you'll test again, and other than that, focus on other things (easier said than done, I know!).

You're more likely to have an answer either way by that point, and if still no BFP, then ring the GP in case something else is going on. Good luck!

DuvetCaterpillar · 09/09/2019 09:56

Oh, and start taking folic acid now anyway if you aren't already - it won't do you any harm if you're not pregnant

May2311 · 12/09/2019 08:50

Hi OP how you getting on? Any sign of AF yet? X

Gha123 · 12/09/2019 11:03

Hey,

Nothing yet but i tested again yesterday and still negative so i am booked in to see the Doctor next week. Don't think I am now so just going to have some tests to see whats going on with my body otherwise.

Thank you :)
