Maternity clothes on a budget

Hi,

I'm 33 weeks along with a sizeable bump as baby is measuring big (was 4lb 4 at 29+6) I've pretty much been in the same maternity jeggings and tops for a while now.

I have some of the stretchy dresses but people are saying "any day now?!" Because of the way they show off my bump and it's knocking my confidence.

I like Asda's maternity section but anyone have any ideas on where to go? I don't want to spend much as I might be getting induced at 37 weeks so not much longer wearing them so I don't want to spend a massive chunk of money.

I'd previously bought from boohoo but the sizing was terrible and I didn't feel comfortable, I know they're cheap though.

I feel like I just wear the same things all the time, getting a bit fed up

Have you had a look on eBay? There’s lots of maternity clothes on there, and if you are on FB there are quite a few preloved Maternity clothes Facebook groups!

Asos has some lovely stuff in the sale at the moment. I was looking for midi dresses yesterday and there were a few lovely maternity bits for under £20.

New Look do maternity clothes but they only sell them online and not the shops.
ASOS also have reasonably priced maternity wear and loads to choose from.
I feel your pain! I loved my New Look Maternity jeans when I was heavily pregnant. Really comfy and I wore a lot of primark tops with them. They have great vests which are cheap and I wore my favourite non maternity denim shirt open over the top so I didn’t feel like my bump was on full display

Happy Mama is your friend!

I've bought mine from Boohoo (sales are quite good and dirt cheap!), New Look and George @ Asda, Ebay are quite good too, there are a lot of bundles on there!

Squiff70 · 17/08/2019 18:29

Mama range at H&M (online)?

AuntieMaggie · 17/08/2019 18:31

Next clearance section on their website had some maternity stuff. I picked up some bits there but their patterned joggers/hareem type trousers are doing a grand job at the moment - I'm 32 weeks and have been managing to wear them over or under bump.

I bought two lots of 3 dresses on eBay. Type in bundle and it will come up. They are lovely dresses and I just gave them a good wash when they came. No one would know they were second hand. I refused to buy new as won't be in them for long.

Currently 38+5 and lounging in my husband's clothes. Haha.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 17/08/2019 18:37

You can buy bundles online quite cheaply on eBay or local Facebook groups. Maybe look for some oversized tops or dresses that are more flowy from an empire line if you're feeling uncomfortable in clingy.

New look had some nice maternity stuff, I did manage to get things in store unlike pp but that was larger new look stores, although it was 2 years ago so I suppose it could have changed and be online only now.

Google FARA Kids charity shops, that's where I bought for my two pregnancies! I tried on loads and got to see which styles suited me, the clothes were in fab condition (I needed work and casual clothes) and the money goes to charity! I hope there's one near you!

Another vote for Happy Mama. It's on Amazon. Or have a look on eBay, Gumtree or Freecycle.

soundsystem · 17/08/2019 18:44

I found local Facebook group great for maternity things at the same stage. I just posted saying I was huge and had outgrown all my clothes (true!) and didn't really want to spend £££ for a few more weeks (also true!) and lots of people offered items cheap or even free. Although I wasn't fussy about style by that stage as long as things fitted me and were vaguely comfortable!

MyDcAreMarvel · 17/08/2019 18:44

eBay , no point in spending loads .

Waffle12 · 18/08/2019 07:18

Another vote for happy mama. Quite a few sale items on there as well. I have just bought a dressing gown and PJ's for hospital and 4 nursing tops for less than £35!

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 18/08/2019 07:28

Go to Primark and get a couple of their £5 stretchy tubeskirts, in a size or two larger than you usually wear.
They describe then as "pencil skirts" online, but they aren't really. They're stretchy skirts made of T. Shirt/Jersey type fabric.
Wear them over the bump with a tunic top or jumper on top.
I've done two pregnancies in these and I swear by them.
They're also great for breastfeeding as you can wear them pulled up high, so that they cover your tummy when you lift your top.
