Waters have broken! How to speed things up?

Hi ladies, my waters broke at 1:45am and we went straight to the hospital, baby and I were checked before midwife said she was happy for me to labour at home, just need to return at 10pm if there’s no progression. I’m having contractions, but they are still manageable. I want to help things go quickly because I really don’t want to have to be induced, but when I sit on my birthing ball or try to walk around I soak through my maternity pad and underwear and bath towel! Any ideas of how to speed up early labour if your waters have already broken? I don’t really feel comfortable leaving the house for a walk because I’m 90% sure I’ll leak through my pants!

Do you have any clary sage? That's meant to help speed things up - whack it in a diffuser. Good luck!

I found walking around really helped when my waters went, mine went slowly over the course of the day so I didn’t really soak through anything . But being as mobile as possible helped, when I went in I was having string contractions and was 7cm

Lie down on your left side, can't remember the science behind it - something to do with increasing blood flow which gets things but was suggested this in both my labours and both times it sped things up
Good luck!

My waters broke before labour. I sat as upright as I could on a dining chair with a maternity pad on and a thick towel on the seat to mop up the fluid. Waters went about 2.30pm, contractions started soon after and ramped up quickly. I went to hospital at 9pm and was 5cm dilated.

Good luck !! I had a quick labour and was non stop on the ball / was making the burdened cups of tea and in general denial 😂but my waters didn’t break until I was fully dilated ... can imagine it’s hard to stay on one of those balls if they are wet!! But couldn’t read and leave at such an exciting time!!

You will rock this! Just listen to your body and absolutely try to walk about / go on the ball but try to rest too!! For some it’s a marathon not a sprint , try to nibble on food to keep your energy up! I was told jelly babies were great as full of sugar and only small ( as I imagine your are not hungry ) I totally forgot to eat all day and being force feed Bourbon biscuits in between pushing is not Fun.

Good luck my lovely hope you and little one sail through the birth x
