Swollen feet and headache

So I’ve had really bad swollen feet for the last 8 weeks or so (almost 23 weeks pregnant now) but tonight when I’ve come home from work my boyfriend has pointed out how bad they are and when I’ve looked down they look ridiculous. I have big feet anyway but they look massive.
My right foot feels almost numb (mostly around my toes) and when I’ve googled it (probably the worst idea) it says that I should ring my GP. It also mentions bad headaches - two nights ago I was waking up every couple of hours after spending ages trying to get to sleep because of a bad headache.

Should I be worried? I’m waiting for a callback from my GP but not sure if I’m overreacting...

Definitely not overreacting, they might want to just check your blood pressure and urine for protein to rule out pre-eclampsia. It may well just be the lovely symptoms of pregnancy and nothing serious but better to be checked out to be sure, try not to worry though Smile Are you drinking lots of fluids?

I think it was a good idea to contact your GP, they won't think you are wasting their time. Better to get something that you are worried about checked than to leave it. Hope the Dr calls back quickly!

Sounds like it could be pre-eclampsia ring your hospital maternity triage unit and get checked out ASAP

Agree with other posters you're definitely not over reacting!
If the doctor doesn't get you in for monitoring be sure to go straight over to the hospital they will want to check and rule out pre-eclampsia. I had a pain in my shoulder and they wanted me in to rule it out as you can never be to cautious x

When was your last urine check with the midwife OP? Not an overreaction at all and totally needs checking urgently but given the headache was days ago and the foot swelling has been going on a while it's really probably nothing.

Thanks everyone, I always feel overly dramatic calling the doctors but glad you would’ve all done the same!

So the doctor called and suggested I go and get my blood pressure done - it was last checked about a week and a half ago along with a urine sample so I’m hoping all is okay and wondering if it’s just worse than usual because I’ve been on my feet all day. Not had a headache since the other night and the numbness has gone now.

I’m popping into the surgery tomorrrow to check my blood pressure and hopefully confirm all Ok! X

If the headaches return make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and keeping hydrated and take paracetamol. If after you’ve done that and the headache persist or you start having vision problems call Nhs 111 or your midwifery triage unit. Also call them if you have any of the symptoms below:

  • severe headache
  • vision problems, such as blurring or seeing flashing lights.
  • severe heartburn
  • pain just below the ribs
  • nausea or vomiting
  • feeling very unwell
sudden increase in oedema – swelling of the feet, ankles, face and hands.
