Hi all
I am moving to Rochester soon and will be about 37 weeks pregnant. Has anyone had any recent experience giving birth at Medway Maritime Hospital? Do you know if it's possible to visit the maternity ward?

I think it’s supposed to be one of the best now. It was appalling but they’ve worked on turning it around. I didn’t give birth there, I had all my appointments there but opted for a home birth. But compared to Hillingdon hospital where I’ve been before I think Medway is nicer. The paediatric wards are good too.

I've had babies there and it's fab. My daughter also recently spent some time in there in the labour/high dependency ward with sepsis (bloody terrifying time). She was treated so well and with such kindness by the midwives there. She is due to have a c section there next week and couldn't be in better hands. Honestly you have no worries going there. Also, Rochester is a lovely place to live, i'm very envious!

Thank you bearfood. That's reassuring. I hope all goes well with your daughter's c section.

I gave birth there and had a fantastic experience. It was an induction that ended in an unplanned caesarean but I still consider it to be a really positive experience. The care was excellent. You get extra scans because they're a teaching hospital too, and often are offered extra checks because of their connection to Kings.

Forgot to say yes it is possible to visit the ward and they encourage it. They have a midwife led unit too, which is worth a look!

Thank you so much HoneyWheeler. That's really good to know.
