Hi, first baby, I’m just wondering what happens at the 16 week midwife appointment?
I’m 18 weeks and not yet had an appointment made, is this something I should be concerned about?

I had to contact my midwife myself to make my 16 week appointment.

All my scans were sent to me but I needed to make the in between midwife appointments myself. Same with 25 weeks.

It's basically just a wee sample, blood pressure and a chat.. some listen to the heart beat of baby, mine did without me asking but everyone now seems to think this isn't the done thing so I didnt want to expect it to happen when I went. It was a nice surprise.

Ring your GP or midwife to make an appointment to see her OP.

They check your BP, urine, talk through any concerns etc and in some areas listen to the heartbeat. You also agree monitoring / appointment schedule for the remainder of the pregnancy.
In my area you have to make the (and all others in line with your agreed schedule) appointment yourself, it doesn’t get booked for you. What did your midwife say at your booking in appt regarding arrangements for any follow up appointments?

Thanks, I’ve been in touch twice over the past 4 weeks but still no appointment. Was just worried in case it’s getting on a bit. I didn’t want to seem like a pest to the midwife but I’ll phone again tomorrow.

Don't feel like a pest keep pushing for your appointment!
At each of my midwife appointments my midwife booked my next one but by reading other posters doesn't sound like this is the done thing. I just assumed it was. Hope you get your appointment asap! X

I saw my MW at booking in, after 12w scan, at 20w (after scan) and then from about 24w it was once a month or every few weeks...

I think (from recall) that 16w is discussion about preliminary anomalies, so if you opted out, if you had NIPT or if your nuchal test results all came back with no concerns, maybe you don’t need to see anyone yet.

My MW led Unit is where I had my scans so I could pop in, they were joined up if you know what I mean.

Have you explicitly said you want to book your 16w appt with MWs and they’ve said they’ll get back to you? Or did you call for another reason and there was no indication that you were going to be seen at 16w? Do you have your 20w scan date?

If you want to see someone, phone every day. You’re allowed.

My midwife books me in for the next appt every time I see her. She writes it on the back of my green notes.

So at booking in, she wrote down my 16w appt. at 16 weeks she wrote down my 24week appt.

Not much happens really, we talked a little about breastfeeding, a little about my blood results from the 12week scan, listened to baby's heartbeat and she measured my blood pressure.

@Dec2019mumtobe this is what happens at my birth centre. They book your next appointment while there and write it in the back of your notes. My consultant appointment and 20 weeks scan were made at the hospital after my dating scan. I’d be useless at remembering to book appointments if they weren’t don’t there and then 🙈 xx

It handy having them all written down in one place too. I am terrible for losing bits of paper!

I always booked my next appointment before I'd left the previous one. So 16 week was booked at my booking in, etc...
