26 weeks, concerned that baby has changed position

I am 26 weeks with an anterior placenta and have been feeling more and more movements, probably for about 5-6 weeks now. Up until a couple of days ago the baby was moving around a lot at the top of my bump, with lumps and bumps poking out, but yesterday I felt a lot of weird downward movements as though the baby was kicking my cervix, and this morning I can feel the 'lumpy' feeling at the bottom. I'm worried that the baby has moved to be head down already and that it may arrive prematurely :( does anyone have any advice? Is this normal or should I be worried?

I'm 7 hours ahead of the UK here in case anyone is confused by the times I have mentioned!

It's almost as if I had written this. 😁 I had been feeling my baby and seeing bits poke out towards the top half of my bump, then on Monday I was worried as didn't feel her as much, then it feel like she was tap dancing on my cervix. Tuesday was more or less back to normal. Today I feel her moving but it's heavy down below and making me feel like I need a wee all the time. I think we just have wriggly babies that keep changing position!

badtime · 24/07/2019 23:27

The baby being head down doesn't mean it's about to arrive. Babies move about, and can be in any position at any point.

Secretlifeofme · 24/07/2019 23:28

@CraazyCatLady snap! How far along are you? I am 26+2, I am actually gutted that the baby's movements have changed because I have been away from DH for 3 weeks, was looking forward to him being able to feel the baby moving but the movements aren't so obvious from the outside when they're at the bottom it seems!

My DD was head down from 21 weeks, she just seemed to prefer to be in that position, she arrived at 40+5 if that helps you to feel better

Secretlifeofme · 24/07/2019 23:29

@badtime that is reassuring, thank you. I've had 3 previous MCs so I think I'm a bit paranoid!

Ours has been head down since 28 weeks and now 38 weeks, I don't expect baby will arrive prematurely x

annlee3817 · 24/07/2019 23:35

Just to add, if you feel that movements have reduced, please go and get checked out

Beldon · 25/07/2019 00:12

They can get in position very early, often having a move around and then back to head down. You will definitely know when baby drops right down in preparation for birth - even then it could be weeks of walking weirdly before labour begins Grin

mistermagpie · 25/07/2019 09:21

I had my 20 week scan last week and baby was head down, it doesn't mean anything this early as they can move around a lot. Don't worry.

PuffsMummie · 25/07/2019 14:13

My baby has been head down since 26 weeks, absolutely nothing to worry about.

Fortheloveofscience · 25/07/2019 14:39

Mine was head down at 25 and 28 weeks, head up at 30, then head down again at 32. They wriggle all over the place and it’s completely normal.

Rememberallball · 25/07/2019 15:09

One of my twins has been head down at every scan since 20 weeks (now 30 weeks) while the other has been extended breech presentation until this week when it is also head down. I am still feeling movement all over my bump but mostly it is to one side.

Rememberallball · 25/07/2019 15:09

*should add, I’ve had scans every 2 weeks since 20 weeks and will until I have them!!

Lexyness · 25/07/2019 15:35

Expecting dc4 currently and she has been every which way but head down until she moved at 34 weeks 🤦🏼‍♀️

BUT dc 1 & 2 were all head down at my 20 week scan and stayed that way the entire pregnancy! They both arrived at 39 weeks so I shouldn’t worry about it! They both wriggled but neither of them flipped, unlike this current baby hippo I’m carrying 🤣 lol x

Bol87 · 25/07/2019 16:06

My little one was head down by 26 weeks then decided to flip back upright at 32 weeks & head down again about a week later! It was really painful when she did it! She also turned back to back the day before I went into labour Hmm She is still the wriggliest child known to man.. she rolls out of bed at least twice every night!

CraazyCatLady · 25/07/2019 23:43

@Secretlifeofme I'm 28+3, baby has been moving around back to normal today. How about yours? Have you started seeing and feeling it more again yet? I wouldn't be worried, they just seemed to fidget around a lot and you get used to it, and then they go and change position completely. I'm sure Dad will see/feel the baby properly soon. xx

Lisalou88 · 27/07/2019 18:11

I’m 29 weeks and this has happened to me a few times and I get kicked down into the cervix however then the movements go back to higher. I think baby can still move about quite a lot at this stage.

EscapeTheOrdinary · 28/07/2019 09:04

2 weeks ago my little one was head down curled into my left side then he moved and was clearly transverse which was very very uncomfortable. His now flipped again and either his head is pressing down on my cervix or up into my ribs. I can’t work out whether it’s his head or bum! I just have pressure in both! Your baby will continue to flip and move and somersault for weeks yet so don’t worry. My midwife said she didn’t care what position he was in when she checked at my last appointment and she wouldn’t worry until I was 36 weeks onwards
