ready meal fear?

ah I'm starting to get so tired of my ongoing anxiety but I freak out at the idea of anything bad happening.

this is my own fault for not checking properly but I blame it on a terrible night sleep. I had a ready meal carbonara that had some bacon lardons in it. the instructions said to cook for 4 mins in 900 watt microwave and 4 nd a half for 800 watt. I have a 700 so just set for 5 mins then walked off. went back took it out put it on plate then put it round the microwave again for 30 secs/a min as I wanted to heat up the cheese I'd grated on it. now I'm paranoid as I've just realised you're meant to stir it halfway through and also I dont think it was "piping hot"

do I have anything to worry about? it's the bacon lardons I'm worried about more than anything and just freaking cos NHS says follow instructions and make sure food is piping hot :( :(

thanks in advance - worrying about listeria etc. now x

I think you'll be fine, I know what's it like to be super cautious during pregnancy though! Most of the ready meal stuff has probably been cooked before anyway, try and get some sleep :)

SureWhatsAnotherOne · 20/07/2019 21:27

The bacon in a ready meal would more than likely be cooked already op, just like you normally fry the bacon off first when making carbonara from scratch. You will be fine.

It sounds like you're suffering badly with anxiety Flowers Have you mentioned it to your midwife?

SoyDora · 20/07/2019 21:28

You’ll be fine. Honest.

PartridgeJoan · 20/07/2019 21:29

I don't think the meat in ready meals is raw, just cold, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

I was just like this during my pregnancy. I eased off towards the end. I know it's easier said than done but don't be too hard on yourself x

You'll be fine. Everything in the ready meal is already cooked and you're just reheating it

thank you, its reassuring to read your replies. I have suffered with anxiety and moderate OCD throughout the pregnancy and its ranged from fearing incompetent cervix/preterm labour to now things like accidentally giving myself food poisioning.

I'm thinking of going to GP this week about the anxiety as it's taking away some of the joy I feel I should be feeling. I think sometimes when I read certain things online it makes my mind go into over drive and I start second guessing everything I wouldn't of even thought about before.

thanks for the replies its appreciated x

Oh bless you. Please do see your GP. You don’t want to be feeling anxious and panicky with a newborn.

Hopex3 · 20/07/2019 21:53

yes I think I'm going to this week - it really has been very distressing and exactly I dont want to be feeling this panicky with the baby. my mum had terrible anxiety and it really wasnt the most pleasant environment to grow up in (she used to double check everything/be very ott about injuries etc. bless her) probably partly why I'm so bad now x

I am on medication now and have had CBT. But I remember the heart stopping anxiety and frantic need to check and recheck. Good luck OP.
