I had this at around 7/8 weeks with an IVF pregnancy. I did get a scan as the bleeding got heavier and it turned out I had some clots in the lining under the baby - the bleeding continued on and off for 3 weeks. I'm 20 +3 now and everything has been ok since so try not to worry.

When I researched my bleeding, I found a study that found that bleeding happens in 60% of IVF pregnancies. Good luck xx

Hello.

I just want to first off all say that your post and all the replies have given me a lot of encouragement when most other sites suggested miscarriage when I got heavy bleeding at 6 weeks (going through ivf at the moment).

I don't know how many people read this since this is an old post or how many will read this in the future, but I just want to say that my heavy bleeding was also not as serious as a miscarriage. My doctor told me I had a blood clot in the uterus that is causing the bleeding. He says in this instance, he prefers that the blood keep coming out instead of staying in. The clot will eventually get re-absorbed by the body. I was told this is not normal but not uncommon. Those were his exact words.

The fetus was still very healthy and I got to hear the heartbeat for my first child.

I hope this offers comfort and some reassurance. Although we never know for sure unless we speak to a doctor, I hope this provides some comfort and not just the worst case scenario.

Best wishes to everyone.

@Seiko88,

Thank you for sharing your story. I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant today (IVF) and have been experiencing bleeding today. I have called the NHS 111 line and awaiting a call back. It doesn’t appear to be getting any heavier and I don’t have severe pain but it’s so scary. Has taken me a long time to get to this stage and the thought of it all being taken away from me fills me with dread.
All these stories have given me some hope though 🤞

I hope everything works out and I send you the best of wishes. I was told by my doctor that he wanted me to bleed the rest of the clot out, so this may be one of the rare times bleeding is ok. Please take care and update on how you are. I really hope in 34 weeks you can hold your baby.
